'08/'09 season thread or something.

Any good ski/board trips to report?! Had a good weekend at skiing Stratton 😀 after a terrible day at Creek last week- fell so hard on my tailbone trying to board I thought I broke it. Any ideas for a good tailbone pad?

These will make you butt look huge, butt they will do the trick!

i was in killington a few years back and had WAY too much speed on a little table top....probably shooting me 10-20 feet past the landing...where i landed on the tail of my board then my tailbone...i cracked the tail of my board, and i couldnt move for 5 minutes....i legitimately thought i was going to die while i was up in the air.

i could not sit down easy for a month....that hurt

I'm up at Creek all week teaching skiing-- if anyone is up there give me a shout. AND I rented a board today for the season....we'll see how that goes....wish me luck. 😀

Do you teach on the weekends at all? Got a friend interested in learning to ski.

You can PM me, if you want.

Thanks to the smack talking of Shar0se I was out on the board last night. And I'll have to say the first run was a little bit of a train wreck - I quickly got my balance and started to figure this thing out. I then jumped over to the intermediate trails and realized the steeper stuff forced me to control myself more and I liked it. I hate to say it but I think I'll have some more days on the board. I did bring the skiis as well, but it was about an 80/20 boarding to skiing mix. Lotsa fun. Since I was there with my ski club they had the added bonus of my students got to see me take some hard shots. Nothing like providing a little entertainment as well.

I picked up some new kicks yesterday, which I'm pumped to try out.

Bye bye shin bang, hello not being able to turn. They will be my boot of choice for riding locally when I'm mostly hitting up the park, and I'll use my traditional 4 buckle boot up in New England and out West.

If anybody is in the Poconos this weekend I'll be riding at Big Boulder on Sunday... woot.

ok...so i just finished 2 days riding at silverton CO.

i have to say...its ruined me forever....i can never ride a trail again....ever

we were unfortunate enough to ride silverton at one of its worst times in years, it hadnt gotten snow in weeks and much of it was ridden out....BUT the way that the mountain operates is that they open certain sections at a time. that way they preserve the snow for occasions like this. so yes some sections were ridden out...but some sections were DEEP and if you wanted to hike...you got rewarded...bigtime. we did a hike that took a few hours at the least, but were able to ride a chute that is being featured in a new warren miller film...it was incredible.

the guides are awesome. they know the ins and outs of the mountain and their goal is to get you the best snow...and each run we found fresh tracks.

the hiking is tough when youre coming from sea level the base of the mountain is a little under 11,000' and we hiked to a max of about 13,000' it was tough..but doable.

ive posted the pictures up to a facebook album so ill link it here when im done...

Looks like an amazing line! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2038814&l=cdfab&id=54900311#/photo.php?pid=31153982&id=54900311.. I'm moving Silverton up on my priority list! Next season, *fingers crossed!

yes...make silverton a priority on your list...the only downside is you wont want to ski anything else....cat or heliskiing is the next step..but im telling you its amazing.

im sitting here in my cube at work and i still have some butterflies in my stomache and a stupid grin on my face...

this here was my favorite run...it took all of saturday to complete..but oh was it worth it.

the red was our hiking route up...at the top of the ridge it got REALLY sketchy....it was super windy, narrow and icy..but when we dropped into the green...oh man...big mountain riding..nuff said

and for reference...that little black thing on the lower right...thats a snow cat

axcxnj - Silverton sounds sick. Mergs went there some years ago and had a great writeup on it. Place sounds amazing and I'd love to hit it up some time soon.

Not nearly as rad, but I just got 7 days in a row at Stowe. Kids had a week break from school so we came up. Conditions were all over the place. Cold hard pack at the beginning of the week. Then really fun spring conditions on Weds with the heat and sun. Thurs was on and off rain with snow starting after 2:30.

Luckily, Friday morning had up to 9" of new in spots. I got up early that day and my son and I got some very nice runs - best of the season so far - amazing considering the warmth and then rain. Even the guys at Darkside said it was one of the best days of the year. The only bummer was we hit the blues as he's still not dialed on pow/steeps/woods. But it actually worked out well for me as I found plenty of first tracks in a number of spots.

Today I got a handful of runs before the holiday crowds got there. Everything firmed up - got a couple pow turns in the woods - and some fun laps on the 6 pack in the mid-size park (WTF didn't they have that stuff when I was young and in college?!) All in all a very decent week for the weather and being on the east coast.

Wake up.. Get driving!!!

Ok.. This is it. The next 3 days up at Jay might be the best in 5 years. No joke. If neck deep snow is what you are after this is it!!

Call out sick and GO NOW!! This is a once a year deal.

I am headed to Utah later in the week so i can't swing it but as a huge gift to anyone who reads this.. F'n GO!!!

I can pretty much guarantee the very best conditions you will see on the the east coast, ever.

The pics from today show a guy skiing with a snorkel.

Ugggggg, how do I convince 10 people to loose out on the money they dropped on a condo at Kmart so we can go up there instead. Maybe I'll just go by myself.

Good seeing you yesterday, next time let's make some turns!

I'm driving to Stowe tomorrow as I left some gear that I need for an upcoming trip. Hopefully it won't be too tracked by Wednesday - looks like tomorrow will be the day. If anyone is up in the Stowe area or wants to go up - ride Wed and most likely Thurs AM let me know.

Those pics of Jay look sick jdog. Have a good time in UT.
