Music

what about local bands? i remember seeing a bunch of great bands at the court tavern & the melody bar (rip) in new brunswick in the late 80's & 90's

i used to play a bit around new brunswick back in the 90's. i used to play with the mothersound, after that, the original swingers for a bit too. i also played with joe joe the dog faced boy, and grannies muffin house (short lived, but my favorite project during that time).

the melody was a great place to play and hang - i had many good times there. the court is still going along... but i havent stopped in since my last gig there, probably 8 or 9 years ago...

can't forget madness & mighty mighty bosstones. i always wanted the job as the dancing bosstone.

court is lame cause its not all ages

still, starland ballroom and the pony have bars and they manage to keep it all ages

Two different situations. SB and the SP dont operate solely as bars, I think they fall under the "nightclub" category which I think has certain specific rules to allow all age entries.

Example being this, could I go into the SB or SP on any given day at 1pm and sit down and have a beer, no. I work for Pepsi and have the SB as an account and know for a fact that if nothing is scheduled for that day they have regular business hours. I think the same goes for the Pony.

Court Tavern on the other hand opens at like 11 am everyday to operate as a "Tavern" as its regular business. Same thing, but if there are no shows on that day, they remain open solely as a drinking establishment.

The guidelines are sketchy Im sure, but 2 different situations. I dont know if it still happens these days, but back in the day some clubs used to get away with allowing 18 y/o girls into clubs with 21+ y/o guys.

despite my very 'grrrr' band list early in this thread, i grew up listening to country in my dad's truck, and i still love those old country songs. so, here's some youtube links to country songs i'm particularly fond of, that are on there. i would just post up the names, but country has a pretty bad image among modern music. the old stuff is just great. i dunno, maybe i only like it because i grew up with it, but i do.

that should be enough for now. i left out the obvious ones like hank williams and johny cash. the above are obvious enough choices to anyone who likes classic country.

I like Beer

I heard this for the first time on the Dr. Memento Show when I was in HS. It was the mantra I lived my life by from that point on...

whiskey's too rough
champagne costs too much
vodka puts my mouth in gear
this little refrain will help too explain
as a matter of fact
I LOVE Beer

cool stuff!

i always get a kick out of old country. this is so much better than the pop music they try to pass off as country these days. i put i like beer in my favorite list on you tube.

No joke, i don't think it gets better than streetlight manifesto.
bandits of the acoustic revolution is sick too.

I just created a Pandora station with Streetlight Manifesto....pretty funky stuff!
currently listening to a SKA version of Take on Me by Reel Big Fish

Pretty sick track, the first half sounds more maiden than priest to me. Great to hear that the metal god is back.
I always loved priest but i was never a big fan of "concept" albums. It'll be curious to hear how this one works out.

You and I have pretty similar taste in music.

I was just talking to someone the other day about how much I miss Fury of V and all the good times at their shows

Right now Im really into Spoiler NYC. Its the bass player from Life of Agony, a dude from a old time local NJ band Cryptic Cookies and one other guy. Really good stuff.

I have also been listening to Indecision's "Unorthodox" almost around the clock lately. That entire disc is just brutal.

Oh snap son!! I haven't heard these guys brought up in a long, long time!! Since way back when I played in a hardcore band called Torq195, hahahaha!!

"Listen up, listen up, here come the unstoppable!!"

Stickman kicks ass!

-Jim.

After Fury, James AKA Stickman went on to co-sing for Boxcutter, which was a bunch of guys from other bands like Krutch and Commin Correct. There were stories of him doing something called One Man Army I think, but I havent heard or seen anything.
