Stephens State Park Conditions

@chainsawer I've never been to that part of the park before, hope I got the right one. If not, drop a pin exactly where I should start.

I did a nice loop today and trails were in great condition. By the mulch pit and golden were a bit overgrown but nothing terrible. I came face to face with a bear at the top of gravity cavity. He was a juvenile that didn't know what to do. I was probably 25 feet from him and I just kept rolling and talking to him. I looked away to see if mom was nearby and I heard him running. Thank goodness it was in the other direction!

Planning on trimming Golden next weekend. If anyone wants to help, let me know. No experience necessary.

Came across these on the Stephens portion of our ride today:
A cluster on under the mulch. Could you use a brushback (not sure if it needs the full jdog machine)

Requested areas for brush hogging have been hogged.

Not super easy going, but not impossible. 4.5 hrs.. That's a workout!

Also did a bit of work by the lake W @Kirt.

Inspect and report back
Great job! Saw the great work around the lake and also on Vistar/Border.--Really appreciate it!

It's a bit thick "under the mulch".--See above (trees down), but maybe that can be done with lighter equipment. If you want to venture over to Deer Park, hit up that maintenance post, and I can provide some feedback there.

I took advantage of the cooler weather to catch up with the higher priority issues in Stephens. From the Vistar/Mulch pit access, I cleared the huge cluster on "under the mulch pit", which was total mayhem. Multiple trees involved. Then cleared the big mess on "unmaintained", which offshoots from the midpoint of "Long Way Round". (Which I guess changes the trail status to "maintained"?!). That too was quite the effort. 3 trees involved, one of which was a fatty. Then from the Saxton Falls access, I visited Hally Toe to clear the one pictured directly above. Looked like somebody tried to roll it off the trail, but I gave it a couple of cuts to get it off the trail even more.
I'm still tracking a pair of very low priority issues, which I'll get to when the opportunity presents.

Likely brushing on Wed (maybe in the rain for extra points). Blue rock and Trestle up from the tracks are my target unless there in other sections are worse. Anyone who wants to join.. send me a DM. Likely earlier in the day. If someone follows behind with loppers and also cleans up the mess it is wildly helpful. Also if sawyers note after where I can't go, it may prove useful for the next visit.

Not a 100% sure, but likely the Blue loop over by Chimney is due.--Maybe someone can confirm?

Also, not high traffic, but a great connector from Allamuchy North.--"Morris Canal Greenway"--mainly the section parallel to Rt80, as well as past the abandoned house, and inclined plane.

Awesome! Thanks for your efforts!
I likely have another 3 hour day in me before the Jorba Fest. Trying to get the trails clear.

Please pot up overgrown sections.

There are a few logs on the ground that have already been cut but they prevent me from running clean passes with the machine. If you spot logs like that maybe flip em over. Leve the pinch point though so its less inviting to atvs..
