Havent watched the game yet.

But it seems there was more action outside. What a shame. About 100 arrests, some sort of march from the Russians celebrating the anniversary of the end of the Soviet Union. Polish people took it as an insult.

Interesting article about racism at the EURO: Racism and Soccer Are in Play at a Big Event in East Europe

You qualify as police if you wear a green mask? I gotta remember this next time I'm in Poland.

oh boy!
looks like the DUTCH are in trouble....2 loses have them practically eliminated and Portugal is back in the fight after beating the Danes.
Portugal and Netherlands should be a great game as they both will be fighting to advance to Qtrs.

and I got my two picks correct yesterday :getsome:

I have Croatia over Italy today and Spain over Ireland...

ding ding ding!
I think we found Polish Larissa (Paraguayan #1 fan from the World Cup)

So I missed on the Croatia win over Italy. but only cuz Italy score on a free kick. Damn u Pirlo!

El niño stole the thunder of my man FABREGAS!!! Good thing Fab came off the bench and scored, gave me some points!
I failed to watch this as I had everything set to record on ESPN and stupid USOPEN bumped the games to ESPN2😡😡 Now I set ESPN2 to record as well.
I had the game 3-1 spain, oh well, there were 4 goals total and spain won, so I was onto something...

Today??? GO ENGLAND....... WAG's!!!! I got the game as a 1-1 tie.

Interesting to see if Ukraine has as good a game today vs the French as they did with Sweden. This one I have France over Ukraine, but now I am nervous.

I am not sure what kind of ritual the Ukrainian fans perform before the games...

First dude was offside, so it evened out.

I missed that while I was watching (on my pc) it live and also missed the replays until I got home. Yes it is an offside, but offsides happen a lot and some are called some aren't. The goal was a little bit more obvious, but this stuff happens in Futbol and I am one of the 'purists' that do not want to change a lot of the current rules.

I understand it is very difficult for the refs, even the new goal line ref to get a clear shot, because of the angle of the plays and it all happens so fast. This will spark the hole Goal Line technology again and a lot of controversy as how this particular goal could've changed the outcome of the game.

Michael Ballack made a good point yesterday about instant replay. Soccer is constantly moving and there are less breaks or planned breakes (like other sports). When would it be a good time to stop the play to review? The play kept going and what if you have a counter and score a goal? If you stop the play to review you are interrupting the flow of the game. On the other sports where they use this technology they have a clear start and end of the play so it is easier to review the plays.

Man o man, did i fudge my picks or what...I got 50% only 4 teams out of 8 on both brackets.

Very interesting games

Czech - Portugal.....Portugal should win.

Germany - Greece.....

probably on paper the easiest game to predict with Germany over Greece, however those Greek shocked the world in 2004 so you cant completely discard them.

Spain - France.....

Spain? anything can happen. If france plays like yesterday, they are out. But France does have talent and can surprise the Spanish, especially if the game goes long without a goal from Spain.

England - Italy.....

Im rooting for England, but Italy are good at closing
spaces and limiting the opposing team's scoring chances. This might go the distance to PK.

so, POR, GER, SPA and ENG.

I agree that not all things should be reviewed, but goal line technology should be used. Let's say it take 5 seconds for the tech to determine if it was a goal or not. There is a close call and the ref doesn't know if it is a goal or not, so play continues. As soon as the tech says "that was a goal," play stops and it's a goal. Even if it takes 10-15 seconds and there is a counter, if it was a goal the play still stops. If it's not a goal play just continues like normal. I don't think offsides or other calls should all be reviewed, just goals. Something like this will come into play only occasionally, and it won't really impact the flow of the game at all.

I also think there should be after game reviews, with penalties for diving and faking an injury. They already do things where they will add additional game suspensions for especially vicious red cards after the fact. If video evidence shows that a player clearly faked an injury to try and get a foul or card, ban them for five games. It's embarrassing to watch this happen in a game, and it needs to stop. It doesn't need to have an impact on the current game, so it can be done after the fact. I remember a Barcelona/Real Madrid game from a few years ago, where Dani Alves pretended he was punched in the face and rolled around on the ground like he was dying, and I think a Real Madrid player was red carded. The video shows no contact whatsoever. He should have been banned at least five games for that. It's the only way to make it stop.

I see your point. I guess it can be done. It wouldn't happen too often.

Totally agree on your second point. It pisses me off that as the years go by players exaggerate more and more to the point where it is ridiculous. And these days with the super slow motion replays you can catch everything. They should fine them for bad acting!! Did u see the Danish striker, forget his name, that got fined $100,000 EURO for showing his underwear during celebration of a goal. $100K!! that is a lot, compared to the stupid fines they give to the players here in the USA for worse offenses. Granted, probably the sponsor will pay for it, since he was showing the underwear that had a big web gambling company name on it.

Enough of legal issues, on with the show today...I hope Portugal gets inspired....I already am

Back to our regular schedule! I was on vacation last week so I missed some games but was able to see Italy -Germany. I was surprised by the outcome. I am still not sold on the "ugly" sometimes, but efficient Italian style. Germans were surprised by both Balloteli's goals and was too quick and too much to overcome.

The final looked like a very good matchup, but as the game advanced and the scored favored the Spanish you could see the Italians had nothing vs Spain. Spain never let Italy have the ball and therefore controlled the pace of the game. Too bad Italy ended up with 10 players due to the injury, which made the game completely one sided and were even lucky at the end the score was only 4-0. I think Spain had some compassion.

Second goal from Spain was a work of art. The play started with Casillas the Goalie!!! and after many touches, where the Italians were just spectators, it was finished by non other than a defensive player. Truly amazing craft.

What can u say about Spain that has not already been said. First eve to win 3 major championships on a row Euro08, WC10, Euro12. I tend to agree, it is probably the best team ever, at least from the teams I had the chance to see, as I didn't get to see Brazil in the late 60's early 70's or Holland in the late 70's. I don't think even Germany, despite being so consistent and dominant overall, had ever had a run like the Spanish. And Brazil surprisingly has never been as dominant locally on the South American Cup (Copa America) sitting at 3rd place after Uruguay and Argentina.

Speaking of Torres...comes in and scores and wins the golden boot! Good for him. What a way to show he still got it (People tend to forget he scored the winning goal in the last Euro). He had a rough World Cup, I believe he went scoreless, and then tough time with Chelsea last year. It is tough with that line up in Spain, not sure how they manage to play sometimes without a true striker. As you saw during the EURO anybody can score, they are not depending on one or two guys like Portugal. Will be interesting to see what happens to Torres once Villa comes back.

Little known fact...Torres is one of the few players to have won the European Championship (Champions League) and the European Cup on the same year.

and on to my picks...didn't do too good this time I had 4 out of 8 for the Qtrs and I had Germany as the Champs, but I did nail the Italy/England going to PKs!!!

There u go now we wait until Brazil 2014... I'll keep me entertained with the Qualifiers

moving on....

Torres

Not a big fan of Torres, he comes on after Italy had been playing down for I'm guessing 15 minutes and scores big deal! If the coach had not made such early subs game would of been much closer as Italy had many chances in 1st half the biggest difference is Spain finished Italy did not.
Just goes to show how good Barca is if Spain could only convince Lionel! 🙂
JU also solid as it shows with Italy's play and what about Pirlo, pleasure to watch!!!

Well, I am not a Torres Fanboy by any means, but I believe he doesn't get enough credit. If Villa was healthy, Villa definitely would've been the starter and Torres would've seen less play time as I am sure Silva would've been also in the line up. Torres is the 3rd all time top scorer for Spain and he is a product of developing young players, he has been in all the National Teams since the Under 15.

It is a big deal to score just coming in, you are not warmed up or in "rhythm" and it wasn't a "gimme" goal plus he did it against BUFFON, one of the best keepers in the game.

Yes, Prandelli made early subs, but he needed to. Remember, one was due to injury early and then he was down 2-0, so he was trying to create more scoring chances. It is a shame that Motta got hurt, can't believe he pulled a hammy! that quick!! Chielini's injury was costly and at that time they were only 1-0 and were generating the more chances, then came the 2-0 towards the end and that was it.

Pirlo is a great player and so is Cassano and Di Natale, as for Balotelli, I dont want to get into it. Definitely a much better Italian team (in the way they played) vs the team from WC2010.

I like Torres. I'm not the president of his fan club, but I want to see him get his form back, mostly as I am a Chelsea fan. A euro golden boot could be a good confidence booster for sure.

well well, it looks like JimN for the win!

FIFA approves goal-line technology

To be used at the Club World Cup in Tokyo in December, the Confederation Cup in 2013 and also the World Cup in 2014. Looks like so far it is not mandatory for local leagues.

In the meantime, I am still celebrating with the Spanish!

Cool. I hope they get some experience with it and work out the bugs in time for the World Cup.

Going back a bit, I'm not a Torres hater either, but I think he's pretty much sucked overall the last year or two. He had knee surgery two years ago and is still working on coming back from that. Hilarious that he wins the golden boot with the limited amount of time he played, kudos to him.

I thought the first half of the final was excellent, with two fantastic goals for Spain. The second half was disappointing after the injury forced Italy down to ten men. I don't think they would have come back, but if they had gotten a goal it would have been a lot more exciting.
