Wildlife

I spotted a bald eagle in a tree just off of rt 23 coming from a cross race yesterday. Pretty cool sighting!

At the Henry Hudson trail in Freehold TheHU88IE and I saw an Osprey.
Got to within about 3 feet of it too. It was sitting on a branch above the trail and I stopped right under him. I could easily have reached up and tapped his foot. The 3 of us just sat there looking at each other for a few minutes. The whole time all I could think was "how beautiful! and where is my camera???"

When he got bored, he flew off. Absolutely beautiful.

Got home and checked my dozen or so bird books to confirm ID.

I've been wanting to see a Bald Eagle for years around North Jersey . Living close to the reservoir I figured eventually that day would come . Well. today was the day !!!! FINALLY saw one - I rode Skyline and on the way home took Westbrook through Ringwood . I stopped at a ballfield for a few minutes to
make a phone call and happened to look up and about 30 feet above my head there he was . Hovered around for a few seconds and took off . What an awesome sight . Made my day and then some .

I remember now we saw like 3 of them (bald eagles) perched on a tree on our ride to Bear Mountain. It was kind of awesome. Map111158 and ChrisRu were there.

Watched a hawk swoop down from a telephone pole and nail a mouse at the intersection of the Sourland Mountain preserve park driveway and E. Mountain rd. One strike with her beak and the mouse was done, then she flew away with the mouse in her talons. What efficient killing machines

Not my pic, but I saw a red tail hawk scoop up a squirrel just like this at Chimney Rock yesterday.

This dumb fish swam by me the other day.

Spooked a turkey on the towpath this evening and chased him down it awhile - I was going 13 mph and he pulled away pretty quickly - then took off and flew away

Turkey on Rocky Point trail at Hartshorne last week. Around 30" tall, and NOT spooked at all.

6M:
Tuesday saw a pretty green and yellow striped snake on the trail. We relocated him/her off the trail.

Then wednesday my daughter and I saw a hawk. He was just hanging out watching us. Then further down the trail we saw a huge turkey. He flew off, tried to land, and very noisily and ungracefully landed in a thicket and then ran off.

Amazing seeing something that large take off and fly in the woods. My daughter was stoked. She had a "very good day" 🙂

Sorry no photos

I was climbing up diamond spring road in denville and there was huge hawk eating a squirrel in the middle of the road. It was about 10 ft away making eye contact with me as I rode by. I think I was riding so slow that it didn't find me threatening. Probably just laughing to itself.

6M sunrise ride: Fox, multiple deer (close too, about 15 feet away), and a bald eagle.
Sorry, left the camera home again

Bald Eagles

I've seen them at the junction of the Millstone river and Carnegie lake while at the Harrison st. stop light on Rt1... Also in the field adjacent to J&J in Skillman
