What did you do TODAY for your fitness?

On Wednesdays I usually run with some friends in Central Park. I woke up at 5 and looked outside and saw that dumping rain being swept sideways by the wind. I seriously doubted anyone would show. My husband didn't want me to go alone but all his rain gear was in the room where the puppies sleep. Waking the puppies = waking everyone so he toughed it out in regular non rain gear, grumbling the whole way to the park.

At the park we were shocked to see 8 out of the usual 10 of us had showed! We had a fun, easy 5 mile run, it was done so fast. I love riding, but running can be pretty convenient when conditions are adverse and timing is tight. Home by 6:30 AM to bake gluten free bread for the family.

my first post on this thread! Have a great day all. 🙂 Heidi

pretty much sums up my thoughts on running...especially considering that today i HAD to get on the hampster wheel in the basement b/c i didn't do squat yesterday.

this, however, is not my first post in this thread. 🙂

I was going to meet up with Mike for a beer and garden burger but opted to commute home. Four days off the bike made me itchy. The usual commute at 14-15 mph till I pointed my bike west towards home. Umm, can you say wind tunnel. At one point it felt like I was track standing at 10 mph. I was really unprepared for for the weather. It's time to throw spd's on the road bike so I can use my boots. Tomorrow I will have to put freezer bags over my socks cause the boots are in my car. My two big toes were in pain when I got home. Good to get over a hump at work since it has had me by the neck the past couple of weeks. Just glad I have one.

summing it up

so the last three days are as follows:

sunday: 40 minute run
monday: hour and 15 road ride
today: hour and 30 road ride.

on today's ride i got to test some brandy new cold weather stuff that i both bought and was given for my birthday. i want to get a few more rides in on at least the jacket prior to giving a full-on review but my initial impressions were very favorable. i learned real fast that i've never owned any quality windstopping gear and at about that time i realized that i was WAY overdressed for the 44* that the therometer read when i left. i could have easily just worn a short sleeve jersey under this thing and been peachy. on the climbs (and for a few minutes after) i had to completely unzip the jacket and my jerseys (one LS, one SS) to cool off. so i got that going for me.

an hour and 20 on the road today, 26* when i left and norm says it's not winter. HA!

so i've got my winter gear about 80% dialed now. the mystery jacket got a real test today as it was a) cold and b) windy, conditions that this thing is supposed to be built for. i wish i had some other high end pieces of winter wear to to compare this thing to but i don't. all i know is that with two LS jerseys on and this jacket, i was toasty. i prolly could have gone with one LS but i don't have enough miles in this yet to know what the exact mix is. so far it works exactly as advertised.

either way, another month of rides and i'll put up a review.

feet were cold. no shock there since i don't have lakes. they are on my list though.

this week was busy with work and other things, but yesterday i got a 5 mile run in at lunch, and had a solid 2 hours of climbing at night. Today im resting up for a 20 mile trail run tomorrow

Two and a half hours of snow removal...It actually was a good workout...

BTW...Shouldn't this thread be a Sticky by now...I am no shot caller but 1200+ post speaks for it's self

Got out for a 40 minute run yesterday right as the snow was coming in. Pretty good times...even if I was hoofing it. One of the main things i wanted to do was test the mystery jacket on a run. I went light: wicking t and the jacket. Once again, just fine. It was cold and windy so it was a really good test.

Today was all about the snow shoveling. Tomorrow I'll prolly put the cx tires back on the Raleigh and roll around...or if time permits get in an mtb ride.

Day 2 on xc skis. After laying down my tracks yesterday at the local golf course today was more fun/fast. Did about 2hrs.today even though I was out for 2+ hrs. yesterday plowing through the snow. My legs were a little achy this morning but once I got going I felt ok.
going downhill is fun on xc skis.

I may go for a nite ski for my Tue night outing, Brett had called about a ride for both tomorrow and Thursday...Nice job doubling up and waking up those extra muscles...

I should look into this for how close I am to white beeches...

went out today for a run today and did the old "walmart" loop. 5.5 miles in 43 minutes. not too shabby and i think it's close to my fastest time on that particular loop. wind was pretty wicked and once again the mystery jacket was perfect with just a wicking tee underneath. again, i don't have much to compare the jacket too but in terms of working, it just does.

you know, you are building this jacket up too much. If other people buy it, it will never live up to the bar you are setting for it. I am going to be pissed if it is something from specialized :getsome:

yeah, you're probably right kev. but the damn thing just works, and works well. and no worries, it's not from specialized.

Day 3 on the Snow
