Was the first pain free ride and aftermath.

Had a discussion with my daughter the other day about structural discomfort on the outside of my knee during recovery from fall.

Donny: it finally stopped hurting while walking the dog so I started riding again…. But the pain came back.
Daughter (Orthopedic Surgeon resident): Maybe you might want to take a few more days off from riding.

What an interesting ride I had today!
First I had bought a pair of Spy ski goggles at Costco because they looked big enough to go over glasses…..and they did, score!!!

Second as I was cruising past the pit, I noticed a small deer in the trail. As I approached it just looked at me and didn’t move. I stopped and then it came to me, his nose was a mere 3 inches from my front tire as I talked to it!! Score!!

Third was not cool. I came around a corner by the hog bog and rode off trail to avoid 3 riders….i should have just stopped but nooooo. I pick up a big, nasty vine in my rear wheel. It had wrapped itself around both sides of the hub. Luckily I was able to remove it, but sadly my speedo didn’t work any longer. I stopped and noticed a wire hanging so I tied it up with a JORBand and started back for the lot. The bike was surely missing the speedo as the assist was real wonky. No score

Fourth was getting back to the lot and put the bike on the rack which gave me a better view of where the wire belonged. Someone was smart in the design department as the mounting clip had tiny tabs that would pop open before breaking. So I put the sensor back in and closed the little door and it all looked normal. Then I tested it by powering the bike up and lifting the rear wheel, gave it a spin and wahoo the speedo worked again. Score!
Ok enough for one day, I’m pooped.

Today was a fun ride with @Juggernaut ….it was good to have him around to lift the bike off of me. I must have lost my train of thought and clipped a stump and the next thing I know I was laying on my side. Sadly, I landed on my arm so I beat up my ribs, left arm, and right knee ( I guess it hit the top tube). But before anyone asks, not a scratch…..on the bike.
We continued on after my unfortunate maneuver, but I felt my side with each root. I hope I get a good bruise out of it so I can get away with sitting back and watching tv.

Franks my hero. I appreciate him checking up on me over the holidays and making some posts to the Jerry thread. I succumbed to some self pity and lack of resolve after having a resurgence of what my doctor calls long covid symptoms. Best word to describe the feeling is Malaise.

Then I sit here thinking about him doing hood loops following Chemo and doing his best to cheer up the other patients at the clinic. And this week my sister in law who is stage 4 ovarian cancer patient flew out from California to visit her mom who is 93 and can’t really get around without a wheel chair. And is now in a NJ hospital cause she over extended herself. Doing better and hopefully out tomorrow. And realized I got to snap out of this and be better. So I did a ride today. Fuck Cancer.
