Wayway Thursday?

Have to head that direction for work tomorrow and would like to preride the course ( I would be relying on someone else for this as I have no idea what it is). I could probably get there around 10:30 or so and could ride for a couple of hours.

I spent HOURS making a GPS map of the 09 race course, go check it out in the wayway forum in the gps thread.

Not meaning to undermine the effort. Just would rather ride with someone rather than trying to read a piece of paper while I'm crashing into rocks...gotta get that gps going.
Thanks for the 4pm invite but I have to be back before 3

I went to Waway for the first time 4/20/09

I've never been to Wawayanda so I decided to braved the weather on Monday (4/20/09) and went to scout the Wawayanda race course. I was supposed to ride with Liong that day but he bailed out due to the weather. My first 2 miles (half way from Sitting Bear), my rear tire started loosing air so I had to walk my bike back to my car and fixed my tire at parking lot by the boat house. After I fixed my flat tire I went back to the woods. After about 30 minutes riding the race course it started to rain and the rain became hail back and forth, I thought about going back to my car and just go home but I looked at my watch and told myself I still have two more hours to play so I decided to pedal some more. I made it up to Pines Trail but made a mistake and missed the right to gas line to old coal. Instead I went left on to rattlesnake - very technical single track.:drooling: After that I was back on Tombstone and it was already 1:30 PM, I was a little bit worried cuz I went round and round between Tombstone, Pines trail and Turkey Ridge. At this time I was really tired, wet and cold and still thinking if I can get back to my car and pick up my daughter in her school by 3PM in West Nyack. Finally somehow I managed to find Cherry Ridge so I took that all the way to Laurel Pond and got back to my car around 2PM and picked up my daughter just in time.
To all first timer who's planning to go there by themselves all I can say is to go for it. The trails are well mark so it's really hard to get lost when you have a map. Here's some lousy phone photos. Sorry I stop taking photos after Sitting Bear, it started to rain.

Good post that is helpful. I may try it solo although the conditions may be pretty bad after the last 2 days...I have similar issues with picking up kids etc and a lot of times it kills the vibe worrying if you get slightly lost or don't gage the trail time right. Sucks actually.

:hmmm:
Waywayanda Thursday sounds like a good idea if it's not too wet.

I'm available around 10am and can ride until 3pm, I've ridden WW once and don't remember much(except the faceplant on a fallen log and the rattlesnake on Rattlesnake), I've got a good sense of direction and I am good at crashing and getting back on. I'm not too fast in the woods.

If these qualities are ones you can use or at least tolerate, PM me.

It's looking doubtful now with the constant rain the last two days and how steady it has been today. I would really like to try and figure a day before the race though...

FWIW- I was in there last night and even with the rain the trails were sweet, just a couple of slick spots- the fire roads had the most water on 'em. Tombstone might be soft everything else is old or rock.

Cell phone?
Those are some nice shots.
😉

Thanks I took that on my Iphone, I actually took more photos in white dot but all the photos are stuck on my Trailguru app which is down at this time.

Hey RNG1 it's really easy to follow the race course map, and like I said before the trails are well mark but when my map got wet and became useless and at the same time I made that slightly mistake I became anxious. At that time I felt like I was in the movie "Blairwitch Project"😀

Hey Cyclopath if only I'm not working tomorrow I would take your offer. I'll try to go there again on Friday after work maybe 5PM.

I got launched over the bars on that little chute in the last pic today. I was getting deflected into the round rock at the bottom. Luckily I managed to just jump over and land on my feet.
