Did you press both the volume up & down buttons simultaneously?

yep. nothing. triangle screen of death!

Well I'm of no help then. The moto Droid has a different ritual then the Incredible to flash the ROM. We have to hold down the X key on the keypad along with the power button while we throw salt over our left shoulder and put a needle through a camel's eye.

My droid keeps trying to apply the flash ota update but keeps failing. Every few days I'll get the notification to complete the update and I try, but it never works. I keep seeing the old build number in the the About Phone tab.

Any ideas?

so i have an update for my line on verizon, i want a droid but which one? i like the look of the fascinate, but i hear there are problems with the web and nav. (will the update to froyo fix these issues? if it comes!) i like the incredible better than the x and the 2. i actually dont like the x at all. too big and i dont like the keys on the bottom of the device. i would absolutely get the fascinate but i hear too many problems, and the verizon store will not recommend the phone, they told me not to buy it untill the issues are fixed. and they dont know when samsung will take action. next would be the incredible but now i see the incredible hd will be out in late nov. shit all the new android devices are probably a month away (christmas)

i will use the device for media apps. and web browsing. i really dont have too much business to be done on it ( not like a blackberry) it will be more for fun, to have a mobile browser, gps email multimedia.

anyone have any thoughts, insights, recommendations?

and please dont tell me im buying a dead phone!😉

I have a son in the fifth grade & he is earning his first cell phone EVER w/good grades from his first report card. Mind u his 3 older siblings have Iphones/ Blackberries. Our family is split . .Peter wants Droid . . what would you do?

My wife just got the X but I think it is too big an heavy. I have a couple friends with the Incredible and am impressed. I stopped by the Verizon store this evening to get the sales pitch and just gather more info about it. The sales-person started off by telling me that the battery life of the Incredible blows. It will die within a few hours if you multi-task with a bunch of apps. She said it would last a day with an extended battery. Basically, you have to have it plugged in all the time. The screen res, touch-screen and speed are all top notch.

Regarding you comment about waiting for the next phone, there is always "the next phone" waiting around the corner. It never ends. Considering that the holiday season is approaching, it may be worth your while to wait to see what is offered. Just expect that you will have to pay more when it arrives.

Under my plan, the Incredible was going to cost me $150 plus accessories at time of purchase. Then +$30/month for data plan ( I don't currently have one) plus $8/month for insurance. Seemed reasonable but I'm in no rush to purchase.

as for battery life...well...they ALL suck. just get used to having a charger in the car forever. if you travel, grab a "power pack". i picked up a "just mobile" pp-08 power pack over a year ago. here is the link:

it is worth every penny as i'm NEVER scrambling to find an outlet anywhere. i just take it out of my bag and plug it in. it'll go two.five full charges and several do "cap offs".

i agree with ben on this, but right now there really isn't anything revolutionary happening with mobile devices. all the "high end" phones are mostly the same, with the OS being the differing factor. net-net, wait a month and at least get the newest "right now".

me, i'm waiting for iPhone V.

And don't forget it was probably a sales person pitching this...Notice how they offered a solution to the problem for a few more bucks 😀

Like bonefishjake said, all of the smart phones have battery issues. But think of how much is going on, it's a mini computer. I'm tied to a desk all day so I plug it in if I'm doing "a lot" (which usually consists of streaming some sort of audio content, whether it me XM, Pandora, Grooveshark etc. or just listening to MP3s on the phone). I have the original Motorola Droid so I can't specifically speak for others, but if I start with a full battery I can stream audio all day at work and still have plenty of life left at the end of the day. I just keep it plugged in so I have a full battery when I leave.

Anything that keeps the screen on (constant web browsing) or runs the sensors in the background (GPS tracking) will chew up the battery faster, but other than that I don't think these phones are any more or less power hungry than the next.

I have the x and love it. I love the big screen and doesn't seem larger than the iphone. My wife has the original and is envious. The battery is fine as long as the screen gets turned off when done.

If you are a smart phone power user, you'll kill any phone in a few hours.
I killed my iphone by noon yesterday, dead. And it was plugged in for 60% of that time. I was using the GPS while driving and had the screen on, it heats up the phone too much and then it won't charge the battery. All smart phones do this. I charged it again, and used it to navigate some of my ride yesterday and by the time I went to bed I again got the low battery warning.

I've got an Aria (yes AT&T I know. Works well enough for me.) I've done coast-to-coast flights and the battery lasts that long with music on and 1 movie.

It's not the best resolution, biggest screen, fastest phone, and typing requires absolute focus, but for me it's the perfect balance between size and functionality. The GPS and turn-by-turn thing is worth it by itself.

Luke beat me to it. I was going to say: The better your phone is, the more your battery is going to suck.

If you play games forget it. It absolutely drills the battery. GPS of course. Downloading lots of data when out of wifi. Movies/music don't kill the battery IME. Bluetooth kills it. I can imagine that downloading a CD while playing a game with bluetooth turned on will eat your battery in about an hour, if not less.

+1 on the Aria. If you turn off WIFI and GPS the battery life is OK. The small size is what I like.

But what do I know, I just upgraded from a RazR. 😱

Bluetooth isn't bad, I ride for hours with the mp3's playing over a bluetooth headset and don't really notice any difference in depletion over just leaving it on.
Driving analog speakers (headphones) might actually be worse on the battery. The speakers in my headset are driven by the headset battery.
