Training thread ?

RacerChick

I've been thinking, all of the training threads here on mtbnj are posted by guys for guys only. Women cannot do the same workout or intensity as our counterparts. Do any of you think a training thread would help?
Guys feel free to chime in for your significant others too.

Comments anyone?

RC ... :hmmm:

RC?

Women can do anything they set theirs minds to do and they can do anything a man can do with a few obvious exceptions. Granted, we may not be as strong or as fast but we can certainly go anywhere our determination takes us.
There is no can't. There is only what we choose to do and what we choose not to do.

Would I read your training blog if you started one? Absolutely! I might learn something about being a tough cookie.😀

I agree! In everything you said. Would I benefit from it? yes! But do I feel ummm intimidated in any way by guys? No, in fact in the past I always rode with fellas and did just fine. If anything maybe I tried a wee bit harder as I couldnt possibly let them out do me just because I am a woman 😀

I agree that women can do anything they put their minds to and their really is not a word "can't". I'm not intimated by men either, I felt that some females on this site may benefit from a "women only" training forum to discuss their short comings in respect to racing. I thought of including my own training which may help others get more involved in racing.

I think it my encourage some woman who might feel a wee bit intimidated to feel less so....good God did that make sense?

I say go for it. Maybe I can use some of your tips to help the bike group I was recently asked to start at my church. I am not such a good teacher LOL

as someone who recently got into racing, I think a girls training blog/thread would be great. I think it would be a great start for those who may have questions or just curious about racing...or even just improving skills.

When I wrote the intro to this idea the night before had trouble again sleeping from my cold/whatever it is that knocked me out of Saturday's race and has prematurely ended my Cyclocross season that still has me pissed. I so bad want to do the final MAC races this weekend, but not training for the last 5 days has hurt. Sorry to vent.
Reading my original post it just came out wrong ...

"all of the training threads here on mtbnj are posted by guys for guys only"
This is true, although I have asked Jim, Ben and Norm on occasion about certain training aspects I felt kinda out of place or "intimated". That's just me.

"Women cannot do the same workout or intensity as our counterparts."
This is NOT true, women can train with the same intensity as men.
however, this past year in training for Cyclocross I used the Hunter Allen Cyclocross plan and found the workouts to be too difficult and therefore I had to miss workouts since I was not recovered. Again this is only my view.

I thought a training forum would be a good idea to help the beginner riders feel more comfortable and gain confidence to get out and prepare for racing. Some women on mtbnj have been racing for many years and have tons of experience not only on training ideas but skills, preparation and bike set up. The number of female riders/racers IMO is very low. Possibly after the winter this would be a good idea.

I am doing a training blog but it's not race specific. In fact it's pretty scattered with cross training in different areas and I don't think what I do is realistic for most people, particularly a beginner.

Are you looking for focus in a particular discipline?
Personally, I've started swimming with reasonable success and have taken baby steps towards running and the possibility of doing a tri next year is very real. I would be very interested in seeing what other people do in preparation. I know there are a few triathletes around here.😉

To your point of waiting for spring...
Why? Now is the time to plan and map out what you're going to do. Some people need a few months of mulling things over before they can put any plan into action. So let's get on it. Chop, chop!!

Later, I got a kickbox date.
(Psst. I was going to say I had a date to go beat on a pole but that wouldn't have come out right.)😀

My training is for racing only. It starts in 3 weeks, I wish it was today! I can't wait!

RC,

If you're willing to post the plan I'm sure that more than a few women would be interested in it. I know I would. I also think anyone who doesn't have a coach or the ability to hire one and can't make sense of Joe Friel's manual would eat that stuff up.

And I'll say it again, even if some women may not be ready this minute to start training for next season, they will never be ready until the seed is planted. For those who have intentions to try a race or two, your help could make it a positive experience. Good training and a good plan can make all the difference in whether they are really ready for it or if they will spin their wheels in frustration for a few races before giving up. All of this athlete/racer stuff is a mystery to all of us until we figure it out on our own or until someone shows us the way.

You'll never know how many women you could influence or encourage if you don't try. Try, RC, try.

I think this is a great idea, and I feel there are many women from this board that have much to offer. I believe women can do just about anything they want, but for some women, the challenges they face in training may vary from men.

Sooo, although it is 50 degrees today, winter is on our doorstep .... let the training blogs begin! 🙂

Women can certainly train just as intensely as men. Intensity is relative to one's physical level. A person training at their threshold power is at the same intensity regardless whether their threshold is 200W or 300W. A wise person once said that we all suffer the same, just at different speeds🙂

+1

How many men have seen their wives give birth? Men can't handle that. The only reason women would quit before men would is because men are too dumb to know when so stop.

I'd love to see some of the ladies jump in on the training talk.

+2.

My wife did this all natural, without a single drug. I thought I was going to drop dead, and I was just there, doing nothing but looking scared.

Don't sell yourselves short ladies.

If this does move ahead it would only be an overview to training. I have a coach and the specifics of my training is between the coach and myself. I'm in the process to recruit two women to add their input 😀 The concept to this idea is to get more women involved in racing.

I'm always in .... even when some wish I would bow out 😀

One down and one to go ... After pleading, begging and offering money to Pixy, she has finally gave in 😀 Having input from someone like Pixy is a huge + Pixy has 18 years of racing experience to offer. Christmas has just come early 🙂

The next top dollar target on my list may not have the time to add her unique perspective on training until her assault in the Cyclocross Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin this coming January is complete. This fish might be a tough one to reel in.

RC ... :getsome:

This is such a great idea, RC---The perfect topic to kick off the loooong winter. Either it will have me feeling guilty for not doing enough, or give me incentive.I hope it's the latter.......Looking forward to some good reading.

Not sure this will happen yet, but it's looking better since Pixy offered to help. You needing training is like bringing the chickens to the fox.
