Ticks

When I rode American Standard a few weeks ago we all came out with 15+ ticks. While we thought we got them all at the trail head we found some when we got home, lovely.

I guess Deep woods only goes so far...

It felt like the scene at Stand by Me with leeches

This year has been rough. I had one bit me on Sunday under my arm. Not attached or buried, still on the surface, just a little bit of blood.

I thought the rough winter would have put these guys in check.

Yes. It's when the red spot spreads to the size of a quarter that you should be concerned.
I've had lymes twice. Once I had the classic ring, the 2nd nothing. The 2nd time my Lyme symptoms started showing up a month later. This is when I got tested.

Symptoms:.being tired and a foggy head.

Has anyone found a good spray or cream that works best for preventing ticks? REI has some stuff they sell for those doing the appalachian trail that I've tried in the past, but tend to forget it and go with Deep Woods.

Grab all your favorite MTB (and hiking) socks, outer shorts and jerseys, and send them here for treatment... https://www.insectshield.com/pages/...Nfc5jXrZCm55JEzEqVwwkMSMjeDE7P5BoCFxoQAvD_BwE

That plus throwing on some Deep Woods Off and you're set.

My problem is the dog. She picks them up on hikes and they end up in the house. 😟

You can do that yourself with the stuff Pete linked. Has worked for me...no ticks since application including 4 days backpacking on the AT earlier this month.

The application last much longer from insectshield. Off the shelf spray needs to be reapplied after a wash or two. I've done it in the past for trail work. It's a PIA.

I find it bizarre that they sell jeans and work khakis but not lightweight hiking or outdoor pants. Office ticks?
I guess utility field workers are the target. BTW, I once bought their shorts and didn't like them. I figure the socks and shirt are the main points of contact and crawling.

6 washes/6 weeks so 2-3x a year....That's way less of a pain in the ass as mailing all my clothes out to get them treated.

I love the permthrin. Between that and a bug cream by Repel from amazon with 40% deet, I've only found 1 tick on me in the past 7 years. No more mosquito bites but those gnats still love to hover although they don't land. It's the most annoying game of, "I'm not touching you", ever.

Permethrin is good for up to 3 weeks once applied. Also good for 3-4 washes during that time. Still unsure of what to use on the legs while wearing shorts. Quite honestly, I think the longterm effects of deet are better than the longterm effects of lyme.

Been getting a lot of ticks lately as well. Found a couple after riding at Maurice, then another couple at White Clay, and just last Saturday I had another couple at CCC. I think I need to get some better bug spray 🙃

Found this guy dug into my thigh Thursday after doing yardwork. This is the first year we didn't get mosquito squad (card on file expired and we were lazy about updating it), and the first time I found a tick on me at home. Was on the phone with mosquito squad ten minutes later, they sprayed the property yesterday. My kids and dog are out there too often to worry about those damn things.
