while riding today at 6mil i have acquired two new friends, chris who was a great guide that showed me the ropes and took it easy on me along with a tick, my legs were covered in mud spots so i couldnt' distinguish the little culprit until after i took a shower and saw this little blood sucker on my right leg. It wasn't under my skin yet but it was sure unpleasant trying to rip the little fu--er off my leg, just a friendly reminder to anyone out in the woods, have someone give you a once over since lyme disease is not the hot new trend like 29ers😀.

it is that time of the year again always douse yourself before starting it not just ticks but also chiggers...

If you shave your legs and ride fast they can't grab on. Jk. Thanks for the reminder. Bug spray, Venuis razors and stamps on top of my shopping list tomorrow

picked one up on the wayway ride. he was still trying to find a spot, so easy to squeeze the ever living life out of the S.O.B!!!

Bug sprays with deet (the only ones that work) can fade/deteriorate your biking clothes!! Spray on skin not clothes.

I had one last week at Allaire and another on Monday at Round Valley. I used tons of Off! but it seemed not to work.

they have special ones just for clothes .. dunno if they're safe for clothes or is just stronger and will fade them faster 😀

Good call on being careful to look out for ticks. I have been paranoid recently after a couple of friends of mine have been diagnosed with lyme disease over the past year.

I bought some bug spray and hosed my self down before our ride today, it seemed to work pretty well. I bought some regular off deep woods, is there anything better? Does anyone have any recomendations product wise as to what works good and holds up to sweat?

The first nice day a few weeks ago I forgot my Deep Woods Off but I figured that the ticks were not out yet in Allaire. I few hours later I had that spec of "dirt" on my leg that was moving. I freaked, managed to knock it off of me. Then I caught it. It was a lone star tick. This was weeks ago and the bite place still itches occasionally.

Interesting articles on why this tick from Texas happens to also be in the NY/NJ/CT area.

Further reading on this subject, "LAB 257" by Michael Christopher Carroll. Excellent book covering all the virus outbreaks that have come out of Plum Island.

I once found 5 of those F'rs crawling up my leg simultaneously at Allaire. Although the ticks don't bother me neirly as much as the CHIGGERS!!!

Oh yeah, And I got lymes disease when I was young. It sucks. Made me feel like I was a 90 year old man with achy bones and tired all the time. It's the tiny little deer ticks that will get ya.

how long does it take to kick the disease from the beginning of treatment?

Long ago, In a time not so far away.... Lyme went un-noticed and mis diagnosts for a long time......

Anyway, now you're kinda lucky if you see the red spot or bullseye rash. Although I've never got a tick from riding, last season I got one on from my yard. Normal day, showered (one the of weeks that I do) (kidding) in the morning I scratched my torso and felt something that didn't belong. Lifted my shirt and sawthe tick wasn't totally in so I pulled it out. A day later I saw the red ring of almost death. Went to the doctor, confirmed it was a deer tick, and I took a pill for 3 weeks. Been good ever since.

Years ago you had arthritis pains forever, or you had am IV in you 24 hours a day for 6 months. Not shit on that one. Saw my brother with his little IV canister strapped to his waist. Things have gotten better in 16 years.
