Ticks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always found Allaire to be one of the worst spots as far as Ticks are concerned. Like you mentioned I remember checking myself after 30 minutes of riding only to find 3 ticks on my leg. I picked them off rode another 30 minutes, checked again and found 2 more! I now only ride Allaire during the winter months and make the trip to Hartshorne instead. I don't think I've ever found a tick on me after riding at Hartshorne.

I once found 5 of those F'rs crawling up my leg simultaneously at Allaire. Although the ticks don't bother me neirly as much as the CHIGGERS!!!

how long does it take to kick the disease from the beginning of treatment?

Anywhere from two weeks to never. Really. If you catch it right away it's usually easy to treat, if you don't you could be screwed. Chronic Lyme is scary stuff. It's very possible you'll never kill it, just go into remission and then have another active outbreak. Once it's chronic it's completely unpredictable and no one can tell you what your course will take.

Unfortunately, I know way too much about this.

I think I was like 11 or 12 when I got it. I caught it early. In fact I even kept the tick that gave it to me. From what I remember, I had to take some kind of pill 4 times a day for a year and eventually the side effects went away. I also recall a few shots. Again, it seemed like such a long time ago I barely remember anymore.
Supposedly I will always have it but the side effects are gone.

I picked up 2 tics last month mtbing in hi mountain preserve. Since then I was tested for lyme disease but the incubation is like 2 weeks. Nj is one of the worst states for tics. I think they recommend staying in the middle of the path to avoid contact with flora. Another cyclist told me his cat has already gotten tics this year.
