the surf SUCKS

It will suck, the sand bars are not setup for a monster swell. Tourists, parking, and ball rash will only complicate things. See ya'll in Sept!!

I am with you.. but I am betting you will be in the water over the next few days.

I only wish this wasn't falling on a weekend.

I want a surfboard. I've been a couple times on each coast, I can stand up, I want to get better, I'm five six, any suggestions? Used preferably - craigslist?

Maybe something like this?

My surfing came together when I got a Channel Islands water hog.

I would recommend it to anyone.

Try to spend a few days watching from the jetty.

Only a few guys will be catching waves. The rest are just bobbers taking up space.

Watch what the best guys are doing right and try to copy it.

Try not to drink to much water and stay out of the way.

I can't think of anything more challenging or rewarding to learn than surfing.

Don't give up.

Sept to December is where it is at.

go for a wider/longer board with more float. smaller boards are tougher to get going on unless you can get in the water a lot - like many times a week. and a fish (like what you were pointing out) is right up that alley of harder to surf.

look at the funboard/minimal/longboard types.

as for the swell, if i go to watch, i'm staying north with the camera. bringing the zoom too.

Some swell coming in today but all chop and windy in Belmar. Looks waist to chest. I'm planning on september / october for my first paddle out in 18 years. Should be interesting. :hmmm:

Oh yeah, I bought a friends G&S 7'2" egg shape.

I've been dying to get out and learn to surf lately. I live across the street and I've seen some killer days where surfers were killing it. I would go out there and mope because I wasn't in on the fun. I've been scouring the web for a sweet deal on a longer board.....one of these days 😉

Your weight will matter too, if your 5'6" and 300 lbs, a Longboard would be my suggestion 🙂. I would suggest starting out on a Fun shapes. Once you get it down, grab a short board for the better swell. I'm 6'3, 200 lbs and use an 8'2 Fun shapes for the summer slop and a 6' 8" short board for the better days.

Had a lump in my throat for that 5 min drive to the beach today expecting swell to have hit. Nada though at 1pm. Surprised. Big south wind, lots of paddling, good practice for when it hits though. I'm playing (music) at the beach bar next to convention hall in AP on Sunday and will have front row seat to the break there. (Actually breaks real good there. Just can't surf during biz hours). Will try tomorrow but looking at Sunday after work or Monday morn for the good stuff.

It is going to be a circus in the AM.

I think I am going to wait for the clean up and save my arms.

Did a rode loop this morning and stopped by the 18th ave for a bit. Early this morning around 9:30 it's looking like there's a swell for sure. It's getting big. I'll be watching from the sidelines - should be fun. 😀

was down in belmar this evening after getting burritos at 10th ave. was real big. some dude coming out of the water said its going to be better tomorrow.

Just got back from work. REAL nice when I got there at higher tide. Big but great form in AP. Dead low when I left. Waiting until 7 and catch incoming for an hour.

Belmar Pics

Super sucky pics by me. I direct photo-shoots, I don't actually take the pictures. Jetty break, classic Surf ave beetle, and pretty sunset. 😀

17th -18th ave Belmar 5 - 6ish.
