The only original MTBNJ Woodworking thread!!!!!

Ok Woodworkers @VanDbtRiver, @SmooveP how hard is it to trim a cabinet above the fridge for a bit more room? Apparently fridges have grown since we had the box installed around our fridge with a cabinet directly above. There is a 1/2" of exposed wood below the cabinet doors. If that could be trimmed back it would give us many more refrigerator options when searching.
Yep, need pics, including one with the doors open.

I would assume they are tied to side cabinets or up against the ceiling...
Usually just attached to side cabinets with screws and also screwed to studs. Might have to deal with crown molding, too. In rare cases, this can work. Need those pics.

@Bike N Gear Post a pic. Maybe cut ends with an oscillating tool, and remove doors set up a straight edge and us a router with flush trim bit to trim the rest?

Same way as to solve Bike problems ! Just get a New Kitchen !
And that solves another problem for the Cabinet Maker........ Now he can afford a new Bike ! 😉

K so , I agree with Coles advice… rough cut the style and finish it off with a flush trim bit. You may be able to hog out the entire .5” with the router and chisel the corners to finish

Yea, I like my idea here. Should be easy with the doors off. Straight edge with double sided tape or maybe a small screw that would be hidden by the door...?

probably way too close -

raise the whole fridge cubby up. there will be a couple screws into the side upper and base cabinets -
then a cleat or something to hold it tight to the wall on the other side. depending on your base molding, you might be able to pull it off, and reposition to hide the 1" gap.

Floating shelves are hip these days any way, right 😉.

This. Raise the whole thing up and pad the gap at the bottom with whatever thickness wood you need to fit the fridge. Stain to match or cover with 1/4 round if needed.

We actually have two of the side panels sitting in the attic that were for a counter depth fridge that the builder had installed then removed. I did think about grabbing one and trimming off some pieces to fill the gap. Just trying to make buying a fridge as simple as possible and not require ripping apart the kitchen.

I found one acceptable (by the boss) fridge that should fit as is with 3/16" of clearance. Of course it's on backorder.
