The Guitar Player Thread.

Yea, you can see it on the body. Got to hang with him as his escort for the night in NYC as he was going from function to function to meet and greet. Was there when he signed Derek Truck's SG, photo with Darryl Hannah, on Willie Nelson's pot filled bus with Woody Harrelson. Lots of quality time to talk one on one though, too. Great off the cuff stories. Also went to his birthday party/movie release and got to sit at his table at the AES convention that year. Very lucky to have gotten to do. pictured is my eyeball, Jimmy Vivino, Al Kooper, Anton Fig, LP, Geoff Emerick (pushed record button on just about every Beatle song), Will Lee and that actor guy from Animal House.

Got around to recording something. Decided to go with guitar since it is a guitar thread. I can't bring myself to jam over that funky thing you posted Jim. The cheese was oozing out of the walls. I'll bust out the bass next and play some Primus licks.

This one ain't so fancy and has a lot fewer notes. It's a rusty version of my arrangement of Summertime.

This is what makes the guitar so awesome. One of the few instruments that can shine in so many different styles of music. There's something out there for everyone 🙂

Today's video. The Intro to Joe Satriani's Midnight off of the Surfing with an Alien album. This was my first intro to this technique. It's very easy once you get your hands in time.

Frank Zappa was the stepping stone to create the greatest guitarist that's ever lived, Steve Vai. Sort of weird how cheesy Eddy sounds nowadays, one of the few guitar gods that never evolved. Kinda like Eric Johnson also, they're like stuck. You'd think guys that were so far ahead of everyone else would have that drive to keep pushing it.

@mattybfat that Eddie Van Halen solo is insane. I watched that over and over back in the day.

I'm a huge Zappa fan. Not only was his guitar work awesome the way he recorded stuff was innovative too. On Joes Garage, one of the guitar solos was recorded over a totally different song, then lifted and pasted over the track that made the album. The songs sound nothing alike but the solo works amazingly well. No one was doing that stuff yet in the rock world.

Here's a quickie on the bass. Primus' Spegetti Western off Frizzle Fry. Very fun lick to play. One of those tunes that when you play it you can forget what you are doing and end up thinking about what you had for dinner the night before while your fingers do stuff for you. Helps that the lyrics over this line are "stoned again". Sorry about the shitty bass sound. It's my practice amp and it's turned way low to not wake the kids.

I'm a big Zappa fan as well. Just brilliant.

Trying to watch this video but it will only play a fraction of a second then it freezes...Both on my computer and iphone.

The start

Was finally able to watch. Goddamnit youtube hasn't been working very well for me for the last few days on all 3 of my macs or my iPhone. Mysteriously back to normal now. Sounds good man!

I revisited the arpeggio lick I did above on the stratocaster. While I was improvising at the time, I kind of liked it so I thought I'd expand on the idea with another part and speed up the tempo a little.

And yes, I am sitting on the toilet in the top left picture.

Really enjoy this

Heard the primus dude playing NIB By Black Sabbath today.
The guy couldn't stop chopping..
Was awesome..

I was walking around in new hope a year or two ago and Saw Les Claypol fishing in the Delaware with Mickey Melchiondo (Dean Ween).

Side note: Gean Ween (Aaron Freeman) was my neighbor. His yard backed up to mine and his fucking cats would hang out in my barn and piss every where.
