new SS owners

I know of a few new SS owners that should come out and have a good time with this...the trail is perfect for a SS and besides the friends, potential new friends you'll meet just the all around good vibes that come with race days makes this very much worth it.

I'm a newbie SS owner and have also signed up for this. My goal, to be in the top 50%. It's a stretch, but ya gotta start somewhere 😀

i ran 32-20. this year i've got a q-ring so i'll be running 33-20. at the most i may go to 33-19.

I would say both size cogs on the back with spacer between them... That is the exact combo that will be on my bike 33 up front/ 20 and 19 on the back... Some tech geeks may argue chain line... F that it works... So if you down a sixer of Long Trail the night before and you feel like shit then run the 20

Sorry guys - unfortunately I will not be in attendance to back up my run from last year. Doing this race after doing a 100 miler the day before still has the same allure, but the race I'll be doing before the SS race is 13 hours away. Last year it was 8. I will have to recover in the car 🙁

if you were a real man you'd be there. 😀

my goal is to beat Jake again. Jk Jake.

damn tony, that's just cold. 😀 as spence indicated below, the six of long trail the night before didn't help me and i blew up fantastically on the second lap. which is when everyone except the guy on the unicycle passed me.

the more i think about it, the less likely i am to monkey around with the cog. IMHO, the difference in speed at equal RPMs (call it optimal RPMs) just isn't significant enough to justify going up or down one size.

All this talk of gearing is very relative... Everything in Hartshorne is climbable with my current 32x20 (on a 29er without clipless pedals), but I know guys that ride the whole place with much taller gearing than I could manage.
I might just have to take a day trip up there to check the place out, maybe in March.

I'm really looking forward to this! I'll have to get to my local thrift shop to buy a new riding shirt to wear on race-day! 😀

It is one of the BEST trails around IMO. Raced it under water and it was fun (the trail not being under water and having no brakes) and on a 100degree day last year for the DH40. Its a must ride place

Stewart gears

Sport ----- 32-17
Spexpert -- 32-16
expro ----- 32-15:popcorn:

The 'official' word from VTC. Nothing more to be discussed.😉
