Gearing question - I'm converting my geared bike for the race and have XX cranks (39/26). I can put on the rear is a 15 with a singleator - any problem doing that with chain jump or otherwise? I read on Sheldon that <16t can be a problem as there aren't enough teeth engaged.

Related to that, I may be undergeared as 26x15 is 1.73 ratio; a 26x14 is a 1.86, which is likely better, but has me curious about chain skip. My other option is to race my CX bike with a 24x16 rigid with canti brakes.

Thoughts?

The expert class will likely have ratios in the 2.1875 to 1.78 range (with 29" wheels). Since your front ring is small your engagement should be fine. I don't think the CX bike would be good in some of the ST, its fast with some tight turns, depending the steering angle you could be in for a wild ride.

Thanks. I definitely didn't want my CX bike having race Stewart a few times, but figured it might be necessary. I'm on a 29er and at the back of the Expert pack, so may pre-ride with the the 14 and 15 and see where it goes. Appreciate the guidance.

bring heavy rubber bands or zip ties. if the singulator allows it to skip, lash that baby down tight.

Set up the singleator in 'push-up' mode, and you'll get some extra wrap. Add the zip tie to prevent chain slap and you're golden.
Well, maybe not golden, but at least not shit brown.
Good luck!

I concede, temporarily. I can't ride the obstacle. I can get half way up it. I would like to try on a larger bike. It just so happens that the wheelbase of my bike is exactly that of 4 step so it kinda wedges itself on those steps. A longer bike would hit the steps one at a time instead of 2 at a time.
The section right before the steps was my favorite. I think I went through that at 900mph and passed someone in the air.

No need to bring a fork, I rand the whole thing locked out anyway.
The steps was the only thing I couldn't clear on the first try, it's going to be a hammerfest. There are no slow sections at all.

I'll be in the factory. Poachers will be shot.

Dear SSAP entrants, as of now the course is hardpacked and extremely fast. In anticipation of some inclement weather we felt it fair to give everyone heads up now as to staging format so we don't drag the race start out on Sunday. We will line the open men up with a top ten call up from last year...top ten returnees according to our records and current entries are...Mike Montalbano...Roger Foco...Joshua Wilcox...James Harmon...Sean Cavanaugh...Robert Stine...Brian Kelley...William Walker Jackson...Doug Jenne...Ramunas Katkus. Behind the open men will be open women and they will start together with the men. Next up, 4 minutes behind will be Sport New Jersey, and 4 minutes behind them will be Sport New York men and sport women who will start together. We will be prizing 10 deep in Open Men, 5 deep in Open Women, 10 deep in both Sport New Jersey and New York, and 5 deep in Sport Women. We have a trophy for DFL, a prize for the greatest distance traveled to get here, the oldest racer, and some fantastic schwag. We are paying a $100 bonus to fastest overall Open man and woman, and fastest overall sport man and woman will receive a voucher for a set of Stan's wheels of your choice. We are auctioning off a set of I9 hubs, total proceeds to benefit local animal rescue as well as $5 from every entry going to the same charity. There will be hotdogs, chips, and beer afterwards during the awards, and we will do our extreme best to do the awards in a timely manner. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email George at darkhorsecycles@frontiernet.net so as to avoid any confusion race day. Again, thanks for pre-registering and we'll see you Sunday!
