Ringwood State Park Conditions

I rode yesterday, will ride again today. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. That said, the humidity layer under the canopy was thick and the streams were all running hard. Today should be even better

What part of the park did you ride?

Just got back. I started at ryerson and did renegade to fire road, to white trail. Then went to skylands trail and came back on red. Park was pretty good. There was a few wet spots with running water but nothing to stop you from going. Enjoy..

Uhmm, I had to look it up, I wasn't aware Cat's Nest was called Renegade...Thanks.

I know it as renegade too. Was called Renegade originally, I still call it Renegade.. Cats Nest as a trail name bothers me, it makes no sense, what is a cats nest? But I digress….

Ryerson to NY, and Ryerson up in the bridges area and by Weble, including Renegade, white trail from warm puppy up past weble, Skylands trail, it’s all good to go.

i mean i know it both ways and i wouldnt call myself an old timer.

But it is listed as cats nest on trailforks . . . . probably why that name has caught on.

I don't have anything against neither, just LOL at the name cat's nest making no sense, as if renegade did! Somebody told me once the reason for the cat's nest name, something up on a tree a believe...it's just a little confusing with some people referring to a trail with a name and others using a different ones. It's all good though, especially if it's good! AS someone pointed out a while ago that part of the park dries much better than other areas.

Ah, and do you know what they it is? It' Dirty Thursday on Cooper Union...

The old USGS map labels the area near the top of the trail as 'Catnest Swamp'. I don't know what a 'catnest' is, but that's where the trail name comes from. At some point 'Catnest' was morphed to 'Cat Nest' on the old Jorba maps and then 'Cats Nest' on Trailforks. Not sure the history of the name Renegade, but I kept it on the trail map I made. Not sure if that's increasing or decreasing the confusion.

Interesting, I still like Remegade myself.

Rode this AM, good to go. Still wet in some areas; there is evidence of the fact that a-lot of water moved through that area during the storm.

On Sunday it was pretty good, just a few wet patches on Six Bridges (or was it originally called Anointed?!?!).

BTW, is it me or the switchback pointed by the arrow is a real PIA to climb (clockwise)? I went over and over several time before clearing it...
