Raritan 911: Robocop

I'm glad the state police are starting to patrol the Parkway again - people were absolute maniacs on it the past three months.
The LED signboards always said "CAUGHT SPEEDING? MANDATORY COURT APPEARANCE" yet most of the courts were closed lol, so I don't know how effective that sign was.

no joke - you guys were everywhere today

Yep, my squad was on dayshift today. I certainly can't speak for other agencies, but you will see us more than you have. Personally, I can't babysit these Millennials at the station any more.

Pretty sure we'll be getting Distracted Driving/Cell Phone/DWI/Click It or Ticket grant money in the coming weeks, as well.

Do you have to do all those things at once to get the grant money?
Asking for a friend.

Distracted Driving/Cell Use is one grant; DWI another; Clickie or Tickie a third. Separate overtime details/hours awarded for each. Hours awarded are some formula of last years productivity, accident data, and size of department.

I figure this is the right venue to post this in, as I do not want to start a new thread.

But I, for one, think that defunding and rallying against the police is a pretty bad idea, for any number of reasons. To bring this full circle, is this not the same as closing all the parks in NJ because 1 asshole rode in the mud?

I appreciate your opinion and support. I figured this would come up here soon. I will not be addressing this topic in any way. At all. I have too much to lose and my personal interest in getting through the next 9 months and 20 days unscathed far outweighs my need to engage in political discussions on the interwebs. I know of 5 cops currently suspended for voicing opinions on social media. Granted, some of them made ridiculously stupid and insensitive comments that make us all (LEOs) look like morons. But the only way to 100% guarantee I don't end up on the sidelines is to keep my mouth shut.

If they want to defund police and have a free for all, then ok. Give me select fire, high capacity magazines, suppressors, and a carry permit. If full responsibility for my protection falls back on me, then its only fair.

Agree that "defunding" is pretty bad idea but, do you really think this is one asshole (murderer)?

Theres more to this story (always is). These 2 guys had beef with each other, they apparently both worked security at one time in the same strip club. The asshole took advantage of his position and authority to exact payback.

It's really about percentages and making a point. Does 1 out of 50 make the other 49 culpable for the actions of that 1? My assumption is that it is 1 of 50, and not 49 of 50.

Like Dave, I don't really want to get into it either. But if we defund the police in some of these areas, it will devolve into total chaos. Just my opinion. Maybe when all the police in Buffalo totally quit and the city does not fall into flames, I'll admit I'm wrong.

I don't want to have political discussions, but Camden NJ is an unexpected case study that shocked me when I heard about it. Not going to give an opinion on the matter just wanted to share that because I was surprised.

From what I read about Buffalo, the police union made those officers resign from that task force. They didn't quit the job.
I'm not disagreeing with you either just think there needs to be reform. And yes, there are asshole in every profession but you can't get away with killing someone if you're in the IBEW or Steelworkers unions.

but Camden NJ is an unexpected case study

I have heard about the Camden thing, but when I looked into it, here are some numbers I found:

Officers in 2013: 268
Officers today: 418
Crime: down 41%

It sounds like reform is being confused with defunding.

@Zaskar - no I do not believe that murder should be condoned by being in a union. Reform is fine, and something we should be doing in every aspect of life, police included. And if defunding makes sense in some areas, this's also fine. But blanket defunding based on social media will just lead to more cars on fire.

I love how they hold up Camden as some shining example of success. Still a very dangerous place in my opinion.
