Six rides over the course of Springtime in January...ridiculous that one day i was riding in shirtsleeves around Manhattan in 62 degree weather, and the next nite i was riding in ski helmet, goggles and seven layers at 6MR in 20 degrees...

Broke some trail at 6MR last nite...some awesome conditions on everything other than the trails along the Blue Fields (high snow drifts, lots of brutal hike-a-bike)...if you can, get out today, it should be sweet!

No time to go looking for trails, so took my life in my hands on the (back)roads. Demanding would be a good word to describe this ride. Very little chance to get it rolling. Finally gave up on pushing to Metuchen when on Vineyard I hit a couple consecutive blocks of ice on the roads, combined with a fair amount of traffic (for that hour😉 and peeps didn't shovel--that got old FAST. Tried to reroute to side streets but that was not rocking either.

This one was getting LOW

and finally "Moon over Blvd. of Eagles" to seal the deal

Only have a ride or two left before extended vacation. Hit 6mr today - run into a guy on a fatbike who stops and says the packed down trail stops at the farm house, you'll have to turn around (like he did). Seriously? I get there and sure enough it ends - but not really - just got drifted over:

Trudged thru about a foot of snow and found more packed sections. Continued riding until the next clearing - really deep snow before that little uphill that leads down to the bridge at Blackwell mills rd. OK for awhile after that but once in the clearing, more of the same. A huge flock of geese were cackling at me here (plus shadow selfie):

Didn't feel like dealing with white so took red back.

So does the bonus count when it is technically a full moon despite all available evidence to the contrary? After being thoroughly impressed by the visibility last night I began to develop a plan for tonight. Open, frozen beach under a full moon...it should be perfect.

Well.....crap. Instead of the light haze of clouds present all day there was dense cover that washed out almost all the ambient. Rolled down the dune 4x4 access confident I could get through the ride without any lights whatsoever. That confidence was tested by the end of the ramp when the deep tire ruts turned out to be a lot softer than expected and I nearly ate @$&! in the first 50ft. A lot firmer once on the flat, and while not great, visibility was ok. Having learned a little already I still opted to run a bar mount nite rider on low. Sure, I could see the rolls in the terrain, but in the low light it was hard to say if it was a small divot or I was about to roll into a sarlacc pit.

Just a few good bruises. Luckily the ice kept my swelling down.

Probably a good estimate. Shit happened fast! Felt like a cartoon that had a piano dropped on their head 😱
Damn, I just noticed the handlebar dude. How is the rest of the bike?
