"Official" BIYF 2016-2017 thread

1/9

1:11:42 - Kev's been busting my stones lately to explore more roads and write more about my BIYF rides. So today I decided to cross over the river and explore PA lunch loops. I did a quick lollypop loop from the office and back. The roads were salty... Passing cars would leave me riding through salt dust clouds. I can only imaging how toxic that shit is. I know I'm inhaling it, I can taste it on my tongue and when I lick my lips. It can't be good.

It sucks they don't allow bicycles the ability to ride across the Washington's Crossing Bridge. I got yelled at by the troll at the end of the bridge. So I walked it. On the way back, I stopped to look at the large sheets of ice floating down the river and snapped some pics.

There was approximately 25% of me that wanted to go out in the cold and ride today. I've been BIYF slacking... Over this past weekend, I wanted to ride in the snow but my MTB is in the shop getting new pivot bearings, Ben's borrowed fat bike has a flat and I don't feel like messing with it and my hard tail needs a few parts and tweaks for me to be comfortable and have a good time riding it. All those excuses coupled with kids sports and the fact that it is cold out, I'm not very motivated to get my shit together to ride in freezing temps. In all honestly, BIYF is not motivating for me at the moment, feels more like a lurking burden. I'm sure if the fat bike didn't need a new tube or if I had my Anthem, I would've commuted on the snowy canal path this morning. Meh.. It's winter... it's cold...

I am a fan of that saddle. It is pretty comfy. I also purchased the cheaper one (WTB Pure Comp) for around $39. It has steel rails and they don't seem to last very long before bending. You are a lot lighter than me, though. I'm 6'4", 200 lbs. I may splurge and try the WTB Pure Race for another $20. That has Cromoly rails...maybe they'll be worth it. To go up to Ti rails at $129 seems crazy.

@jimvreeland I literally laughed out loud. Had to explain myself to wifey. Anyway, care to weigh in on your saddle of choice for all day riding?

Thanks..

I have cheap a WTB pure
Beside,my Ass is made of steel
All kidding aside,to be able riding for that amount of time I alternately changing my position every 30 minute to one hour
From sitting down to standing up I do that thru out entire ride
This way i will not put too much pressure on the nerves
Also,my glute muscle is strong so I doesn't really need to wear pampers like most cyclist does, altho sometimes i wear it too if I haven't ride for such long period of time, and when I feel the glute or my ass muscle strong again then I don't need no stinking pampers (chamois)

So,start training your ass to becomes stronger and able to ride long and far.

Nope, just pot your rides
thanks! here's my rides thus far...

12/17 - 2:22 at 6MR...i know this is before the actual start date, but wondering if i get any credit for falling off the bridge on the red trail into the creek!

Sticking with the same theme as yesterday of @stb222 motivated exploring new roads, I initially wanted to explore the small climbs / descents from / to RT29 south of Washington's Crossing. After txt'ing with Kev all morning, he convinced me to stay away from RT29 due to the shit shoulder conditions and how busy that road is.

I opted to try the road that runs through the Trenton Airport. Kev said is was resurfaced and in great condition so I gave it shot. And he was correct. Looking forward to ripping that road on the light bike.

I've been riding the heavy steel bike lately and I've been bitching about how slow I am on it especially when it's weighted down with commuting gear on the tow path. I've only been able to push this heavy pig 15-16mph average on most road rides and 13-14 commuting. For some reason today, the slug rolled smooth and the pedals felt a little bit easier. When I noticed the higher than normal average mpg, I decided to keep at it. Fucking A - 18mpg avg on the heavy bitch.

Huber was in perfect snow condition this morning. Someone passed through with a grooming device Saturday , word on the street is that it was probably Garrett from Krankys in Highlands. He has a boogie board with a 45 lb weight attached. I've been fortunate enough to ride with him and he is beastmode enough to get the job done.

I was on my 29er HT with 2.25 NNs and it was more than adequate. Trails were super smooth and grippy. It's ashame I only got one ride before the incoming rain. Most fun I've had on a bike in awhile.
