"Official" BIYF 2016-2017 thread

another "beat the dark home" ride. younger one is home sick so had to wait for the older one to come home and watch him.
At some point I was freezing to death even though I was pedaling at a good clip. wearing same stuff I wear at 23 and weather said it was 33 when i left and 33 when i returned. I was either running out of fuel or sweated too much and got wet. anyway, the last hill to get home warms me up everytime.

no time for pictures, nothing to see here anyway

1/10/2017: High Mountain Park Preserve. I had a meeting down in Hamilton Township. Initially I was going to hit Round Valley on my return. But, I just wasn't feeling it for RV. So, I decided to go to High Mountain. I'm still getting to know my way around and really hadn't been out to this western section before. More good stuff.

What trail is that tank/structure on?

Got out for a short "hard" ride the other night. I'd define a hard, urban ride as accelerating hard, and keeping up until the next intersection or human hazard - i'm mostly on sidewalks and shared-use paths. They are nice, wide, paved, and well traveled. The pic above is a dead-end into a park - at the end, is a footbridge to another dead-end road. finally some relief from traffic. i am not going to use a bike lane in a 50mph zone, or where the road is 3 lanes wide. The cars turning left across it are not looking for bikes, and they have to gun it to shoot the gaps.

Anyway, i'm pushing at a decent pace, but i'm not closing fast on someone that didn't look to be working hard. When i finally caught up, there it was, an e-bike. OK, i'll play, call my pass, and push a little harder. The sun is just right to pick up his shadow, attempting to hold-on. No dice, and he catches me at the next intersection. off we go again, and after a mile or so, all gone.

ya just don't get to lean your bike against a shark e'ryday.

I'm having fun riding around on a bike that cost less than the brakes on my hardtail. Jump on, and go. There is a clicking noise under power (no snickering) so will address that today. i also put the front wheel on backwards. An SS thing.

I wanted to do a little urban exploring, so hopped on the bike and made a few different turns. rode through a couple parks - climbed an indian mound, saw some serious, water-front properties. Didn't get killed by anyone turning right or left. everyone was very cordial. Kinda nice. Well except for the people on the roadies in their pro kits.

Since i'm still in Florida, these don't have to count. Whatever people think.

Getting some decent pics. (for me anyway)

Much stuff was going on today and I was not sure riding would fit in. Sick kid finally got squared away for the night, and out the window I went.

What a difference 20° makes, took a ride over to Metuchen to see what was "hippening." Well, apparently at that hour on a Tuesday, not much. Climbed the hill to the kids' old Pre-K school from last year, watched some trains. Even the bike seemed to be shifting better, and rollin right along. Didn't stop me from getting turned around on the way home tho, I blame those curvy Edison neighborhoods where all the houses and intersections look the same. Especially in the dark. All good after a quick reboot.

You could make ice cream with all brown salt and snow that was turning to slush, the bike needs some TLC. Trying to drag the boys out for a trail ride tonight, but options appear to be limited. Maybe a very very late afternoon who gon dun it meow. That trail from the top back towards the lot flows pretty nice with some good whooops and turns. I miss that.

The ride was great until I tire flatted. That will teach me to replace stans. Walked back to the
Car to replace the tube so I could get an hour ride in and this happened

Back on the road after the meltdown. Nothing of interest other than a @Johnny Utah moment on LongHill road before Wertzville when two dogs came flying out of their yard onto the road and gave chase for about 10 yds. I turned around as I heard the stupid owner calling the dogs and she says "don't worry they don't bite". I said yeah well they chased me into the road - you think that's ok?

Anywho, found some road bling

I opted to try the road that runs through the Trenton Airport. Kev said is was resurfaced and in great condition so I gave it shot. And he was correct. Looking forward to ripping that road on the light bike.

I used to commute through that area when I worked in West Trenton. Nice place to ride a bike, and not a ton of traffic off the highway (Hopewell valley area).

Not a bunch of riding today, but going to make a concerted effort to start including hills in my daily rides (also, riding. That would be a good thing to do).

I like seeing your pics in Harriman. Its similar to when @Kaleidopete posts pics of Wawayanda. I find myself going, "I know that spot".
Yeah I've come across your tracks more than once there.....Ive found an old cracked safe, and some tombstones from an unmarked cemetery........Have you ever gone to the Boeing 727 crash site? It's off of pine meadow road near beaver pond Creek. Always wanted to check it out. A plaque was put up recently and the wreckage still remains some 40 years later....I wanted to get to the orak ruins today but had to turn around, ran out of time......

We had rain overnight and it didn't freeze, so I was hoping my local trails would be ok. Usually, if the parking lot and roads at work are dry, and we don't have puddles on the lawn, then the Tourne is good. I headed out on my usual loop, and noticed that all the roads in Danville were still soaked, so my optimism went away. I got to the Tourne and it was pretty muddy on the first trail which usually drains well, so I figured I would just ride around on the road for an hour or two. I ended up going to check out some local Mountain Lakes single track, which was actually in decent shape. Then I wandered about on the road, cut through Hepner, cut through JWoods, did some road and then finished up my ride. I think everything should be good to go tomorrow since it's going to be warm tonight and tomorrow.
