"Official" BIYF 2016-2017 thread

1/8 - https://www.strava.com/activities/825594152

I was planning to meet up with @rayder and friends at Stephens, but I woke up late and couldn't really get going this morning. I eventually made my way over to the Tourne, and ran into @extremedave fifteen minutes into my ride. We rode together for a half hour or so, and then I rode back to the lot with him and ran into @notcho just pulling in. Then I rode with @notcho for about an hour, and then I went back to his house to drink beer and bring beer home. No more productive activity will be happening today.

Recovery cruise around West Yellowstone. It snowed a bunch overnight and the trails were soft, as are my legs.

Would I have received extra bonus points for riding one of these?...Good day for bulls, bad day for cowboys...Notice cowboy out cold in fetal position...and timer in background shows 3.31 seconds, so he was probably ejected around the 2 second mark....Oh, and they're not bulls, they're referred to as Animal Athletes...

Yeah, it was the PBR at msg. Your GF didn't return with any sordid tales did she? There where many women dancing the whole time, shrieking and screaming (particularly at the under 25 year old cowboys), I saw one grinding a complete stranger.....And one held a huge sign that basically said she wanted to get quote unquote Bucked by the rodeo clown......Much alcohol appeared to be consumed......

Short stories:
I Start this ride at around 3:18am with temperatures 14f from Clifton to Suffern I rode mostly on sidewalks (for my safety) from Suffern to Monroe the shoulder on highway NY17 was partially unplow,so I basically rode on soft bank of snow sometimes on someone is front yards or veered into empty parking lots anything to avoid my tires skidding out onto the highway it was quite slippery, anyway I made it to Monroe where I eat another breakfast were previously I have in Suffern texted maciej to say Hi,..
Continue briefly on orange heritage rail trail then pick up route 208 towards Stewart SP I choose to ride back roads instead of highway for safety normally without snow I would ride on that highway
The back roads are empty and roads surface is in good shape with some black ice
Finally made it to Stewart SP
Then work my way to cross onto Walden

Made it to Walden
Then eat my lunch there before continuing the next rail trail
Now, on back roads again heading towards The WVRT (Wallkill Valley Rail Trail)
Follow that rail trail until I hit New palzt
From New palzt I stopped by at local famous Bakery shop where known very well by cyclist either from NJ or NY
Ate a big piece of carrot cakes and coffee
Then move on onto my next destination
While I was riding on route 32 towards Esopus I got caught up in snow storm wch I have notice it it when I was on WVRT I saw the storm forming above the Gunk's and I knew that was storm I was looking at and it is fonnaly down on me
So,i was snowed for over 45minutes before I reached the Perrine's bridge and after that the storm dies out,.. it was scary and also nice
Scary because I was on that highway meanwhile all the ignorant driver passed me by without slowing down also visibility was bad at the time, lucky to be alive..
The Perrine's covered bridge has been on my radar for quite long time
Yesterday I finally made the visit and it is why I make this trip
It was quite a remarkable work of art or Engineering marvel
This is one of many historical and protected covered bridge in the New York sate has
Finishing looking around admiring the site
Time to go home now, it was around 235pm
Gotta go to Poughkeepsie to catch the train go back to the City
Another back roads adventure this time climbing over the mountain for about 15 miles before dropping down to Hudson river
FYI,
The Walk way Hudson always close at 4 pm
I got there a little over 500pm
So I crossed by Hudson bridge instead and that would be my third unable to cross using walkway after the closing time

And
What a bless I get to the station 1minutes to spares before the train pull away
The engineer saw me walking down the stair carrying my bicycle and opened the door for me,i didn't even have a chance to buy ticket from the machine, there inside a conductor awaited me
And inform me the train is about to leave, then pay him the Fare
I also forgot to turn off my strata (about less than 15min actually) before I realized it
Arriving in spuyten Duvil then make my way crossing into Manhattan by taking Bronx Bridge
Then another bridge to cross before arrive in Fort lee, there I ate my very late dinner at 9 pm
Finally made it home by 10:45pm

What a day it was!!

NEAR DETH

3.6 miles from my office, there is a trail that leaves a steep (12%) county road and gets me into the woods. I found it in the spring of 2014, cleared some undergrowth from a well used track and have ridden it 111 times on Strava. I have never cleared it without walking.

Today, after I had walked about halfway up the trail in the snow, there was a car behind me descending the county road fast from the sound. Then, a screech and a crash made me turn around. The car was against the opposite guardrail, having bounced off it head on and spun 180 degrees to a stop.

For a moment, I wondered if I should hike all the way back down the hill, but then realized that there was a person in the car, so of course I should. The driver was OK, car totaled, had his cell, and didn’t need anything and I waited off the road for help to arrive. A couple of minutes later, my thought was that his car had just hit a guardrail that I had ridden a couple of feet inside of on my way of the road-lucky miss. After 20 or so minutes I was getting cold (21 degrees) and dialed 911 myself. Within a couple of minutes a police car arrived and I carefully went on my way.

@liong71er Another impressive long ride.

I have to ask what saddle you use. To be in it for that many hours and half the time you are wearing jeans. Just wondering what you are finding provides all day comfort.

Thanks..

I have cheap a WTB pure
Beside,my Ass is made of steel
All kidding aside,to be able riding for that amount of time I alternately changing my position every 30 minute to one hour
From sitting down to standing up I do that thru out entire ride
This way i will not put too much pressure on the nerves
Also,my glute muscle is strong so I doesn't really need to wear pampers like most cyclist does, altho sometimes i wear it too if I haven't ride for such long period of time, and when I feel the glute or my ass muscle strong again then I don't need no stinking pampers (chamois)

So,start training your ass to becomes stronger and able to ride long and far.
