"Official" BIYF 2016-2017 thread

1/4/16

Moving Time: 1:21

A random bird was chilling along the trail and decided to fly right into my head just as I was passing it. It was very dark. Not gonna lie...kinda screamed liked a little kid and a little pee may have come out.

I am starting to think your definition of coal roll is just a little exhaust.

Obviously mostly in jest, buses aren't setup to coal roll, but this clown was apparently pissed he couldn't pass me for like a minute so when he did he floored it and quite a lot of smoke ended up in my path.

Last Friday, while riding through Lenape Park near the Springfield/Westfield border there was a large canine with an odd, discolored coat walking along the edge of a pond north of the MUT which is atop a dike. The coat color was off and it was bigger than a large fox.

Today I talked to three hikers at the same spot on my ride, who told me that it was a coyote and that they had seen a pack of five or six of them in the trees at the back of their office parking lot in Springfield.

I figured trails would be crap and I'd be stuck on the road, but I planned on scoping out my normal route starting through the Tourne. It was bone dry. Like it hadn't rained in a week. And then there were two tacky spots. So I continued on my normal route through Hepner which was not dry, but not muddy either, and then JWoods which was a bit wet. I was planning to go around Splitrock Reservoir on crappy jeep roads, but it was already 5pm when I got over there. So I checked out the nearest single track, and it was good except for the two spots that I knew would be wet. So I ended up over by the dam and figured I might as well check out Wildcat and make my way back. It was in ridiculously good shape, except for a handful of pools/rivers in the normal places. I had full foot immersion slipping off a rock trying to get through one of the pools. Thankfully, I chose to wear my winter shoes even though it was too warm.

You can't ask for better weather in January. Wearing shorts on a night ride in winter always makes me smile.

1/4 AM: wet like yesterday morn, but today no mist. Not much excitement.
