Rode Nassau this morning with my daughter....A little of the OG section and most of Springside (the open sections) using the field to connect.
Trails are in relatively good shape in terms of moisture etc. There was a good sized tree down on Springside, and I'm such an asshat I can't even remember exactly where. Most of Springside is in need of a trimming also as the overgrowth was starting to do the Freddie Krueger thing to our arms a bit.
While it's still a big bummer having the trail closure, using the field isn't so bad, it's actually kind of fun to bomb down it. Someone had mentioned how cool it would be if flow trails were cut into that field, kind of like dual slalom trails coming down. Seems like a pretty great idea to me.
This was an abbreviated "pre-work" ride, and avoiding the closed trail we did just shy of 10 miles and covered around 1000' of elevation. We did the Springside loop twice (once each direction) and did out and back on Foran trail, but otherwise didn't double over anything else and didn't cover all of the original Nassau section, but of course we did ride some of Nassau road since we used the field to connect. Still loads of fun though, and being local the closure won't dissuade us from continuing to ride here regularly.
Speaking of the field, there is a gate at the bottom restricting it from car traffic which I believe is pretty new. Also, there are signs up at the bottom of the closed trail now. Says something about Passive Recreation only and no bicycles.
