Nassau Trail conditions

I think Nassau is getting less overall traffic and attention since the trail closure 😕

Are there any signs yet? Last time I was there a week ago there were no signs but silly concrete blocks (still easy to get thru) at the entrance to the "closed" trail

They had new signs made up.
Will be placed soon.

I think the barriers were a show of good faith to the NJDEP - who is (asking) enforcing the deed restriction
(they know they don't even keep honest people out)

don't lose faith - keep going, and posting that you went - and didn't ride the restricted area.

This doesn’t really apply to people who have time limitations. If you need to make the most of the time you have, Nassau is not really in the mix anymore.

This is not a faith thing. When I see how frustrated Jeff Oliver is, I don’t think the park is worth the time nor attention.

I have not been back since the closure.

It's 30 minutes from work. Not worth the drive.
Maybe when it's reinstated I'll go back.
Chimney is down the road and I can ride there every day and not get bored

Nassau is closest to me, I had not gone since the closure until last week. I did a couple miles and left. I can't see myself going back since it won't be maintained well and I enjoyed Springside more.

With that said, I think if someone were to post an upcoming TM session I would go and assist.

Rode Nassau this morning with my daughter....A little of the OG section and most of Springside (the open sections) using the field to connect.

Trails are in relatively good shape in terms of moisture etc. There was a good sized tree down on Springside, and I'm such an asshat I can't even remember exactly where. Most of Springside is in need of a trimming also as the overgrowth was starting to do the Freddie Krueger thing to our arms a bit.

While it's still a big bummer having the trail closure, using the field isn't so bad, it's actually kind of fun to bomb down it. Someone had mentioned how cool it would be if flow trails were cut into that field, kind of like dual slalom trails coming down. Seems like a pretty great idea to me.

This was an abbreviated "pre-work" ride, and avoiding the closed trail we did just shy of 10 miles and covered around 1000' of elevation. We did the Springside loop twice (once each direction) and did out and back on Foran trail, but otherwise didn't double over anything else and didn't cover all of the original Nassau section, but of course we did ride some of Nassau road since we used the field to connect. Still loads of fun though, and being local the closure won't dissuade us from continuing to ride here regularly.

Speaking of the field, there is a gate at the bottom restricting it from car traffic which I believe is pretty new. Also, there are signs up at the bottom of the closed trail now. Says something about Passive Recreation only and no bicycles.

The irony of screwing signs onto 50 trees with deck screw to enforce and “environmental closure.”

I guess this is an all out taking of the ball and going home. Sad development, I would say.
Nobody to blame but themselves. Way this is sounding, it's a bureaucratic kerfuffle, and that is ultimately where the blame will lie. Once the pols (who reportedly were in favor of getting this dispute fixed) got involved, that should have signaled to the civil servants that the time for tape was (mostly) over, thereby at least providing an expectation when it would be resolved. Oh well.

I rode Nassau today. The trails are great, all that rain has not created a puddle.
The signage for the closed trails are confusing. From the signs attached to trees, it is unclear where we can ride and where we can't. It appears that we can't leave the trail, but actually, we should not even be on some trail. Go to the bulletin boards (none at Foran Fields) and the maps show the hiking only trails. Unfortunately, we rode a bit of poorly signed trail before getting to a bulletin board.

Rode both sides today. Good bit of overgrowth on Springside.

Noticed the metal box for the trail tools in the woods at the top of the field is now gone.
Does it look like OG Nassau side still being maintained?

It's all good to ride. It seems that new berms have been added, meaning someone is improving the trails. What I noticed was the wine berry bushes growing into the trail, and grasses foot tall blocking see around ability. Those will sort themselves out come fall.
