Eat less crap. You are either making your body worse off or better off with everything you ingest.

Cut you drinking in 1/2

Ride with people who are faster than you.

Don't hang out with folks that cause you stress.

Don't smoke anything.

Ride because it is fun. Never ride because you think you have to.

Spend 1/3 of your pedaling time on the road.

Don't listen to me or anyone else.

this one i plan on following.

i've been phasing out the gym rat in me for the last two months. really. when i go, i literally do next to nothing. so much nothing that i ran into a guy i used to workout with and he was like "you're done?? already?". then it's the possibly useful spin bike.

i know that the problem is lack of fun. i'm going to do my best to get to LM today and just ride.

On the whole have fun thing.

When you come from an athletic background as Jake and myself did, It is not easy to get out on a bike and have fun unless you can perform at some perceived level.

this is a huge problem for me, and i admit that. in college i was at the highest of high levels for my sport. so yes, i need to be at a certain level to have fun. i can't help it. it will come, i know it will. it was just a shock to me that i'm not further along. like i said, i didn't expect a complete change, just a little more. i was humbled...and i didn't like it. shocking, i know.

Jake knowing you the little I do, I would say your fun would come from a very specific plan that you execute and then shredding me on the Needle.

nah, that's not even it. honestly al. i'll admit, it's a nice motivator for me to get off my arse and ride. like today. 😀 LM here i come!

well, today was a better day. my goals were the following, in order:
1. have fun
2. ride for 1.5 hrs
3. have fun

i managed all three today so i'll consider the ride a huge win.

got in 12 miles today at PP/LM and cleared that first hill again (norm, heythorp, you know the one) so that wasn't a fluke. i also missed every single tree! 😀

overall, i felt pretty good for most of the ride and have more or less discovered that i take a long time to warm up...almost three miles before my lungs catch up with the rest of my body. i was real happy with the way i rode today. i needed to double check, but i thought my overall ride time was at least as fast, if not faster than my fastest times on the same route last year...which i think is odd. i'm not 100% sure since it's not a true apples to apples comparison (my old cat eye only did actual ride time, where the garmin runs constantly) but it looks to be the case. so, a bit of good news there.

mainly, i just had FUN! finally. spin tomorrw am then snow! hopefully i'll get to PP/LM again this week to get some freshies!

one other thing that i confirmed today is that i can run 30lbs in the 29er tires and be ok (first time i did this was at KVSP the other day). on my next venture i'll take it down to 28 and see what happens. good news for sure on the mary.

jake, motion based will give you moving time and total time. use the free service there. it's alot better than the garmin software imo.

i registered for MB but haven't used it yet. i'll load this one and see what happens.

sean, do you keep all of you info on the garmin unit? is there anyway to "download" it to excel?

edit: just put the data up on motionbased: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/2074212

i also put up a couple others including the KVSP "learning experience" and a 25 mile road loop i did a month ago.

today was COLD!! holy crap. the answers were good for about 1/2 the ride then that was all she wrote. feet were cold. face was cold. my arse was cold (that's saying something)! about the only things that were not cold were my hands. i picked up a pair of outdoor research gloves a few weeks ago and they are FANTASTIC! i'll post the name of them later, but they were $44 from ramsey outdoor and so far worth every penny.

anyway, did a local ride today of 10 mixed trail & road miles...data here: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/2078767

another fun ride, which i'm happy about and the first time i've done that ride on a SS. no mountain lions to speak of and i can state without a doubt that exiwolfs DO NOT stick to ice. at all.

forgot to mention yesterday that i noticed for the first time that someone had hung three dirtbikes about 40 ft up in the trees. that must have been interesting to see them do that.

the garmin automatically stores i think 1,000 rides in it's history. hit mode three times, then enter, and you'll see everything. motionbased agent automatically uploads all of the history it's missing. imo, if you have motion based and the garmin training edge software, anything else is pretty useless.

Just make sure that you use the "Smart" data recording as opposed to the every 3 seconds or whatever it is. I did a super cool long ride on the "record data every 3 seconds" or whatever it is and it was too big to be uploaded into Moition Based. It was probably my best, highest climbs, fastest decent, longest jumps etc, etc ride ever......but I have no proof.

wow, didn;t think that was possible, especially considering the 100mile races that are uploaded. have to keep that in mind...

I do this now:

1. biking socks
2. toe warmers
3. wool socks
4. answers

Since I added numbers 2 and 3 my feet have not been cold at all. That includes both rides last weekend that started below 20 degrees.

I do this now when it is cold:

1. Start a fire
2. Sit on the couch
3. Watch tv or read a book
4. Fall asleep on the couch.

hmm...i may have to add the biking socks. are you doing that on the road, on the trail or both??

I picked up a pair of Seal Skinz windproof socks with fleece lining. Those inside the Answers are working great for me. No cold toes.

Jeff, did you say ebay or an online store for the Seal Skinz?

I got mine on eBay, just cuz I was lazy and didn't feel like looking around. I payed $40 shipped. Kind of expensive for socks... but how do you put a price on warm feet when the temps in the low 20's?

There are different models so make sure to look for the ones with the fleece lining.

I like models with fleece lining too.
