Mercer County Park Conditions

Went west from the marina @11:30 today towards Van Nest on yellow where it goes into the twisty section near Hugh's Drive. Started with frozen conditions and smooth However, further near Hugh's drive on certain sections RUTS were everywhere bad ones... particularly where recent TM work was done:cry:...
Folks if your headed out for a ride this time of year please pay attention to conditions. Freeze-thaw soil conditions can destroy trail surfaces. If it's frozen all is well but if above freezing, recent rain or even a strong sunny day please be considerate. If it's that muddy turn around and head home PLEASE.😉

TAS

It was frozen solid this morning when we went out. Just started to thaw in spots when we were done around noon
It's really sad how badly all of our hard work is destroyed on the west side. It would have been really fast today if not for all of the ruts.
Please take TAS's advice in the future.
For now, enjoy the ruts for the rest of the winter. 🙁

I was out yesterday and trails were like concrete! At the beginning of the Blue trail from the parking lot I noticed a fairly new trail opening on the left so I took it. This is what I found. A solid sheet of ice in a couple sections🙂

:hmmm:Rideable conditions at MCP this weekeend? Sunday?

Lots of standing water everywhere. :-/
No rain in the past few days so i'm hoping that its starting to recede but there has been so much precip lately. 🙁
If you go, get in early while it's still frozen because as soon as it thaws, it will be a mess.
Also, give us an update.

Thanks. Based on your description and that I would not have been able to get there until the afternoon, I stayed up north.

I rode yesterday morning and it was frozen solid fun 🙂
The standing water has receded and everything was solid although pretty rutted up in areas 🙁
As we left it was starting to thaw so i'm sure by the afternoon it was a mudfest ...with todays warm weather forget it.
I'm hoping for a good snow ride after tomorrow's storm and some colder air. 🙂

Thinking about hitting it up on Saturday morning . Hoping the cross country skiers or the fat bikes will have the snow packed down on most trails, it seems its worked out that way in the past. Its all about enjoying the limited chances to play in the snow for me. It sure puts a smile on my face averaging 4mph thru the white stuff on two wheels.

For East Coast this snow is very Fluffy, you should have no problems on most of the trails.

I will be busy packing snow with my Fat Bike this weekend.

Have fun🙂

its not possible to ride , the snow is thick and crunchy , the bike sinks down and doesn't roll at all . Was hoping to see this packed down today but it wasn't. Glad they have paved bike paths and the shoulder lane for bikes.

No Riding Please!

Hiked both sides of the park this week with the warm weather. Trails are in NO shape for bikes, so please, if you are thinking about riding (as we are all desperate to do), think again and leave your bike at home. The trails are either covered with ice, slush, or very soft mud. In addition, there are quite a few trees down, large branches, and a lot of debris. Some trails are not passable on a bike - hard to get through on foot.

I saw a few bikers out earlier this week and they were gutting the trails. When the trails dry out, they will resemble railroad tracks if this keeps up.

Be patient and wait for Mother Nature to dry the park out. It'll be worth the wait!

In case anyone is wondering about trail conditions. I rode mercer yesterday and the trails were in great shape. Most everything is just dry; a few damp places but no standing water or mud.

I just got back from Mercer with my wife and son. We rode ~ 5 miles on the West side. Conditions were great as I expected. Some small trees down and misc debris on the tread but nothing major on the trails that we rode. Dirt was perfect, even tacky in spots 🙂

yea i was there today also, me brother inlaw and our two older boys. Some spots were little muddy but the rest were pretty good. hopefully we dont get the snow they were talking about cause trails will be even better in few days.

Rusty and I rode the whole park today. The tread conditions were awesome in most of the park. The northern blue loop Is still a bit muddy in the usual spots that just don't drain. We also stopped no less than a half billion times to cut and drag stuff off of the trail. There is still more to do and 5 or 6 big trees down that will need a chain saw on the next official TM day.

Hit the trails early this morning to beet the rain. i think i was the only one out on a bike. trails were fine but a few mud spots in the usual places. i parked at the tennis courts and road down to quakerbridge rd and back. took some trails i havent been on in a while on the way back. got back to the jeep just in time for the rain.
