Mercer County Park Conditions

Actually, TM was still held. I just cancelled the meetup since I was too ill to attend. 😉
I spoke to the guys after TM and they said the trails south of the lake were in pretty good shape surprisingly.
The northern blue loop is probably wet...but it hasn't dried yet this spring.
I'd say hit it tomorrow. 🙂

Mercer seems to be rideable. TM was focused in Van Ness and considering it is below the dam it was mostly dry. I'd assume that the usual wet spots will take a while to dry out but the park should be good to go

Today's ride

So, I took Mike And Muddy's advise and the wife and I hit the trails. We rode the trail on both sides of the marina and found both to be in great condition with only a few very minor exceptions. There were the usual spots that remain a little damp after a heavy rain. The only real issues were with 2 of the 4 new bridges leading into the blue trail but neither one caused the trail to be impassable. The 3rd one was flipped over and laying in the water,(nothing I could do about that), and the 4th one just seemed to be shifted to a position that left it completely mis-aligned with the trail. I tried to re-align the 4th bridge but, I'm just one fat weakling, that bridge is damned heavy and the only help I had was my 5' 4" tall wife. So.. there wasn't much I could about that either. But, over all it was a great ride and the trail seemed to recover very quickly. I wish Pennypack recovered that fast!!

Thanks again for all the up-dates and for all the work you guy's put into this park

I would suggest that the bridges be cut down to movable pieces and transferred to the wet/sloppy parts of the upper blue on the north side of the lake. 🙂

Just rode yesterday. Trails are beautiful, mostly no mud. Really flat trails, but happy to finally got the trails again. Anybody know of trails that are a bit hillier around here?

Welcome to MTBNJ! Clayton isn't very far and is a little hilly.
I'm not sure where you are coming from but you can get some hills at Baldpate as well.

Coming from Brown's mills and McGuire afb

Clayton is even closer for you then. Small park so you will have to do laps but it's relatively hilly.
Your other option is crossing the river into Pa. Wissahickon and Neshaminy are good options. I'm not sure what your drive time would be but it might be worth looking into.
Hit me up if you want a tour some time. Not sure if you hit everything at mercer but you can get close to 20 miles of trail here but there are no hills to speak of.

I believe I hit most trails, but there were a lot of trails that shoot off in all directions. I found that super twisty one. Could only crawl through, but was fun. I'll check out Clayton this afternoon after work. I came from central pa so I'm used to technical hilly trails

Cool. Yeah, the closest to what you are used to is going to be the Wissahickon in Philly or Neshaminy (Nesh is smallish but fun). Lots of that stuff up north as well if you have time to explore but it's a bit far from you.
You should have fun at Clayton, it is pretty small but pretty close to you and hilly for the area. Try hitting everything in both directions.

I have been pondering cutting some trails in the fort dix range wilderness. Anybody interested?

I strongly recommend that you don't get involved in that unless somehow you have approval (which I doubt anybody could get)

They will not be happy about someone playing in their sand box...

Besides, there are plenty of good legal places to ride.
It's not like you would find any epic terrain back there or anything.
It would probably be similar to the trails at Brendan Byrne state forrest.

trails are dry on both sides , picked up all branches that the rain had dropped this morning.

Hero dirt on the west side yesterday. Super tacky unlike the epic dryness that has been around for a month. Get out if you can today buy avoid Mercer like the plague this weekend. There is a Triathlon going on.

Excellent conditions

Rode almost 13 miles yesterday...Mercer is in excellent condition. Praise for the TM guys and gals...brush and fallen trees cleared, all looks good. Love those bridges in the west side too.

Get out and ride!!!
