Don't flat.

haha. Yes. Thank you Confucius. 😀😀

All i have been doing today (At work) is reading up on tires, psi, etc, etc.

I think one of my problems is I had been riding my FS Sultan exclusively until race season started. At which time I started riding my HT Air 9.
With the Sultan, i go over everything (roots, rocks, trees) regardless... and without a care.
On the HT i find I I really need to pick my lines and make a conscious effort to be smooth (at the expense of slowing down sometimes  )

So i have a lot to work on the next 2 months. I really want to podium at least once this year.

But...I WALKED THE ENTIRE second lap and since I'm a nj resident AND have an annual lisence that made me the cat3 50+ male nj state champion! 😀

LOL... you are a REAL champion!

Hubby knows not to call me to tell me he DNF'd. You're not broken? You're bike is fixable? You paid for that ride, you better be riding!!!

Needless to say, this has pushed him farther than maybe he should have gone... riding 2 of 3 laps at Ringwood after breaking his foot in the preride and riding 1 whole lap at the Lumberjack 100 (that would be 25 miles) without a seat! He had one more lap to go on that one, and I asked him on the phone, "Can't you just walk it??" Cruel, I know...

I got 16 mosquito bites from when i changed my flat(s).
Literally.... 16.

I've got a picture for you...
We just came back from vacation in the deep north woods of Canada. One night hubby and father-in-law sat at the table in the cabin and killed 50 mosquitoes before going to bed (to be feasted on by more). That's inside - can you imagine the density of mosquitoes outside?

go to tubeless .

1500 miles on my UST rim without a single flat !!!
Yesterday I ran low press without any problems , I felt the tier hitting the rim - but for UST it is a non issue ...
The problem that with all the 29" passion the UST was forgotten ...

Thats why this flat problem has me all confused. 😕😕

Rockin KSVP Course...

For the record, I am usually not a big fan of KSVP. However, I thought that the race course for this year had great flow. I wish that the climb that I keep hearing about (from Exp/Pros) was included in the sport loop. The center section of singletrack was a really nice flowing section between the climbs. Well done Bulldogs!

First chance to get a breath today.

Thanks to the Bulldog crew for putting on a great race. I totally dig not knowing exactly what the course is; adds another level of excitement.

Props to Jim V. for sticking thru to end. Once I ran into him I think we both picked it up a little (emphasize little). Having someone to hang with on the last 20 minutes was a blast for me. Looked like you were doing some MMA not MTB.

My race, CAT1 40-49 3rd place (2nd for State). First race this year, so I just wanted to get out and keep a good pace. I knew it would be long so I kept eating and hydrating early. It paid off late. I picked up a couple guys in my class on the last lap and missed 2nd by 10 or 15 seconds. I think I was slower on the flats but ripped thru the technical, slippy down hills and climbs. All in all, I rode within myself and brought people back to me. Hopefully I can turn it up another notch for DH40.

What tires were you running?

I try really hard to keep the sidewall off the rocks. If I cant, I make sure I get out of the saddle and unload them as best I can.

So far my geax's have gotten one pin hole. It failed to seal bc the stans was dried up. Other than that, 9 months of no flats from running tubeless.

Ive been riding GEAX saguros tubeless with the GEAX sealant for a few months. This was the first time i had a problem.
Im starting to think there may have been something sharp in the trail. Cause I flatted both tires (punctures) at the same time.

You may simply be out of sealant. I flatted on my Pythons Thursday and when I threw a tube in, the sealant was gone. All that was left was a marble-sized blob of gummed up sealant that wasn't going to seal anything.

When i took off the front tire to put the tube in, there was some sealant left, but probably not enough now that you mention it.

I ordered some of that cafe latex today. As well as some Toro's.
Im going to try that set up for the next 2 months and if its good im going to race it.

If not, I am going back to Fire XC pros and tubes.

Yeah, that'll solve your pinch flat problem 🙄

If you were low on sealant, there's your answer. Just put more into the current tires and see if they seal up. How old are these tires? You said 2 months?

The mosquitos didn't notice me until I was nearly done changing my flat. I was inflating the tire and gathering my crap and they began buzzing in my ears. It reminded me of hearing WWII bombs whistling as they fell to the ground.

I got out of there before any impact. I think you need to improve your tire changing skills. 😛

I know it seems crazy, but i never got flats with that setup.
Since ive gone tubeless, ive been having all sorts of problems.

And yes, about 2 months.

But i remounted them about a month ago with fresh sealant. 2 scoops in each tire.
I was running about 29 PSI front and rear.

(Should I take this conversation to the "Shop" area? )

I want to find out who that guy was that did a sweet jump for me but I missed because I was jumping up and down getting attacked by a wasps nest I stepped on where you leave the forest into that field I was mainly in.
Holy run on sentence 😛
ha

I think that was me. I was flying through there trying to make up for lost time in a crash. I was wearing Team Marty's jersey and shorts.

Then go tubed!

Before I jinx myself, I'll tell you that "someone I know" 😉 has been running the same set of Schwalbe Racing Ralphs with tubes on Velocity Blunts since last November. After a winter of training, a century in TN, all the H2H races and SS-A-Palooza, he hasn't flatted. Sometimes when ping-ponging off of rocks at full speed at places like Waway and yesterday at KV, they made sounds like gunshots complete with the ricochet noise, but there isn't even a mark on the sidewall. I, er, he has had 30psi in them at all times no matter what the conditions. Bike handling and finesse play a HUGE roll though. Knowing how to unweight your bike and throw your weight around is critical. Not you personally, J, but we must ride less like steamrollers.
