Kittatinny Hose Down Thread

As a well educated rider that avoiding wet trails I was shocked from the condition :scared:- and had a thought of bailing …never had a chance to hit trails in such condition ….
I made a decision to stay … (thanks Liong for encouraging me!) released some air out of my tires with a hope that with the adrenalin I would manage …I was next to the finish line talking with my wife (wondering where are all the riders) when group of riders passed next to me …I forgot to figure out one critical item – where is the start line 😕….I quickly rode to the start line and started the race.
I was flying on Trail sections that looked impossible to handle in the pre-ride ,
HTML:
the pressure and the adrenaline boosted my technical abilities …
with the need to try chase my group I made couple of mistakes on how I managing my energy – and burned myself too early in the game:drooling: , the second lap was hard – I was alone in the trail without a storage rider to push me …
Eventually I finished 16/20 and meet my goal– not to be the last in my category …
I’m hocked …Next race is in Tatum park – no excuses there, I know the names of each deer and groundhog …😀

great job,antgold!!

i like to give a shout to john baumann,....without him i wouldn't be able to race on that day.

he helping me,to get my bike and car keys wich i'm accidently locked inside the car😱 just right before the race started,...

Luke - You know people are going to be wheely-ing at you all the time know.
maybe you should set up by a tree for protection...lol

Good times today. Today was my first race and while I'm not totally excited with my finish, it wasn't that bad. ..... I need to build some sort of competitiveness. I am so hooked into this group/friendly ride thing that everytime someone stopped, or fell or pulled over to drink or fart or whatever, I stopped. Today my kindness killed me. I went easy off the start and I paid for it. .... See you freaks in two months.

Congrats on your first race! It's ok to sit in on the first race and see what it is all about. You will find your race face when ready, and probably next race. Also mr pixy says "no need to stop and fart, just stand up" :getsome: .... and that is advise from a pro 😉

Sorry to hear about the orthodontia, that sucks.

Lay off the popcorn; can only end badly for the loose toofisiz.

I raced. Cat1 SS Open. I didn't feel great. Forgot my camelbak and gels at home. I raced with bottles and a banana. 🙄 I just let things flow out there. The course was awesome. It was nearly identical to an old "Running of the Dogs" endurance race that Bulldog did in the past. That means I did 7 or 8 pre-ride laps about 4 years ago. 😀

I put in a few huge efforts to stay ahead or with riders in other classes that were passing me. I paid for those efforts each time. I flatted on the third lap and was forced to stop and add a tube. From there I just rode things out as best I could. Saw another SSer in the last couple miles and burried myself to catch and pass him before the finish. My total race time was around 2 hours 30 minutes.

I suspect that the course dried significantly during the day. The earlier racers describe greasiness and mud. We didn't have much of that in the afternoon. I noticed spots got drier within my four laps of racing. I love racing there. I've gotten good results in the past. Super flowy trails with just enough rocks to keep you honest. I do wish that some of the rocks were less sharp. I've flatted but finished each of the last two years.

I see Jim decided to run the Pythons even with the slick mud? Nice macro tread shot.

I've been running the Pythons all year, even in the off-season during my snow rides. Bonty just made a new tire called the 29-3 that I'm gonna run during this break to see what it's like.

I think my Python days are coming to an end. As I get faster they just don't seem to do it for me anymore. I'm tearing/pinching them pretty routinely. I did like the toro/python combo in theory but now that I've been running those Geax I really love the confidence they give me. They're not light as a feather though...

I must say that I had a blast out there, and once again I ran into some bears, this time on the pre-ride. I did a quick sprint up last years finish to get my heart rate up, and when I got to the top, I turned around to go back down and there was a family of little bears up on a rock over the trail I had just ridden on. I felt a little uncomfortable, not seeing a mama and being by myself, so I took off the other way.

I imagine things dried out a bit by the time 1's went, but it was a fun course, and the conditions were ideal for me, and just enough moisture to keep it a mountain bike race. Call me crazy, but I really dug the 3 climbs on the back side of the pro/1 course. That 3rd one hurt every lap, but what a feeling of being home free when you reached the top. ....and the weather 🙂

Ever think about Raven's 2.2 I hear they are exceptionally fast and reliable...

There's a newer version called the 29-0 too, not sure on the difference.

I was trying to recall the course with hubby before heading down yesterday, as I had only rode it once 2 years ago. He was reminescing about Running with the Dogs, getting hypothermia, some snow flurries, younger guys peeing on their hands to warm them up.... Sounds like good times! 😀

I want to find out who that guy was that did a sweet jump for me but I missed because I was jumping up and down getting attacked by a wasps nest I stepped on where you leave the forest into that field I was mainly in.
Holy run on sentence 😛
ha

Look at the pics you got of me last night. I'm horrible to photograph. 1st lap I'm trying to get the bottle put away. 2nd lap I'm too busy talking to you heh. I never did find Utah Joe after I passed you btw.
