How many bikes are necessary?

There is no way I could get so many bikes. First of all I would end up riding just one or two, MTB and roadie.

Right now I have 2 29ers and looking for road bike. I guess Three bikes will do:)

ahhh my 2 car garage is in need of cleaning too barely can get around let alone actually putting a car in there:

Me: 4" sus 26" mtb
6" sus 26" mtb
ridged 29" mtb
road bike

Wife:
4" sus 26" mtb
road bike
ridged 29" mtb (sometime this year)

Son: (8yrs)
2 bmx's
24" ht mtb

Daughter: (5yrs)
barbie basher with trainers
tinkerbell fashion bike with trainers

An assortment of bike stuff like burly trailer, 2 bike back trailers, and stand ect. ect. Now you know why I can't get any cars in there. Luckily I got rid of our DH bikes recently.

29 SS
Road Bike
Fixie
2 CX Machines

I go back and forth in my head many days about having a geared MTB. I love my SS and cant justify such a thing. Down the road I think.

I also am dying to have a SS CX bike. That will come first.

I got too many.
road
cross
ss 29er
full suspension, 26"
hard tail, 26"

I want to sell the two 26" bikes and make a geared 29er. All bikes bought at Halters, there is no other..thank you J..
All my bikes are Cannondales and probably always will be..
But will still need a grand or so to make the bike I want to build.

Too much money

1) 29er Hard Tail
2) Cyclocross
3) Road/beater/commuter/back-up cyclocross
4) Urban/park/trials

With the new USAC rules you may see people start to bring "pit-bikes" to MTB races:hmmm:

-Jim.

1) Giant Trance X1 (FS 27 speed), Primary
2) Jamis Dakar Sport (FS 27 speed), Back up
3) KHS Team ST (turned into SS), Primary
4) Leader (turned into a tour bike with road tires, rear rack and pannier, comfy saddle, looking to get riser bar), for the shore, 5 Boro, and various bike tours on the roads.

Just to chime in, I have the following:

29er Race Bike
29er SS
26er geard beater
Full on DH rig
5" travel light trail bike
Road abomination/tri bike
Homemade carbon fixie

Bikes that I want:

Cross bike
More serious road bike.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmbikes

2009 29er Gary Fisher Paragon (new race bike to the stable)
LaPierre X-Lite CX bike
Fuji Team Pro (road race bike and traineing with power tap)
Fuji CX Pro (training, commuting all around fun bike)
Colnago Master Road Bike (damn, steel is real I guess. It rides so smooth and the tubing is pretty rad)

I only have two bikes because I live in a tiny room.

- 26" SS hardtail (have different sets of stem and pedals and tires etc so I can use it from some urban to XC)

- Fancy pants Fuji road bike that I'm afraid to ride in the rain. :p

If I could, I'd get a SS/beater roadbike, a 29" rigid SS, a DJ/urban ride, and a FR/DH rig of some kind.

I fell that the only bikes I need are 29er ss and old road bike. I would like to upgrade to a nice road bike and get a short travel downhill bike.

Hmm... the infamous "quiver"...

I like all of my bikes to have a generally specific use:

XC HT (currently, a '97 IF Deluxe... someday to be replaced by a 29er HT)

XC FS (currently, a '98 Yeti Lawwill DH-6, planning to replace with a Jet 9 later this year)

DH/FR (currently, same Yeti, although I switch to beefier DH tires, hoping to repalce it someday...)

DS/DJ (currently, a '98 Chameleon... could use repair/upgrades right now..)

Road ('97 Colnago Master Ti. I have no plans to race road, so one bike will do for now...)

Commuter/Touring (none right now, hoping to get an I.F. Independance some day)

Cross-bike... I had one for awhile... wish I hadn't sold it, but needed money and it was the bike I rode the least. Had no real desire to race cross back then, although that may change in the future...

BMX - Mine's a 20"... I don't ride mine very often, but it's fun to have around and a nice one can be bought for stupid-cheap compared to mtn and road bikes.

Then there's the 'graveyard' of partial frames and bikes I still own but don't ride anymore and aren't really worth enough (or have sentimental value, or both) to try selling. I have... 5 of these...
