H2H Race #4 - Bulldog Rump KVSP

Have these guys actually put in for upgrades based on non-USAC results? The upgrade process is not nearly as Draconian as the road process, and if you explain that you race competitively in a series with other cat 1 riders, and want to buy a USAC license, it may very well be all you need to get the upgrade.

Or... USA Cycling could get off their pedestal and allow day licenses to race Cat 1 😉

Was there an official photographer at this race? thanks

Luke was not there, he is an official photographer.

There were some people taking pics but prolly friends & family of team Bulldog.

I am not Lukes publicist but I'd say he'll be at the next one.

This is good info. I had no idea (but then I'm not looking for an upgrade.) But a few guys I know would benefit from this. Thanks!

Very happy to have gotten my first win cat 2 50s. Was sort of surprised our field was so small for this event though. There's a guy or 2 I'm usually either chasing or being chased by that weren't there. Still a fun race. Kittatiny has a great flow. Feeling the upgrade thing with a 2nd at LM and win here, but then I think of JH or Blue, which I've never been to, and think of dying in the rocks around 20 miles in! Will see how things go at Taconic. Never been there either.

sweet! ringwood doesnt lay out well for a race.

Glad to hear Tim is doin well I saw the ambulance leave never a good sight.

Thx Mtn rider ive been working hard since tymor. Finally have things going in the right direction i think.

My race recap 40-45 cat2

Got to park early knowing i really needed a proper warmup. Meet up with percy on his singlespeed.Do the last half of the course with the bigger climbs. after warmup im feeling pretty well. top of fluids take a cliff bar head down to the line. Decide to start front row for a change. Im not a fast starter and never wanted to get swallowed up by the pack.
So we get the countdown 5 4 3 2 1 but no horn. half the pack leave ,a few stay back a sec.
Sprinting to the single track I settle in about 8th or so not bad for me. Alex passes me on first lil road climb after single track. we talk briefly and away he goes. About 2 miles later I see Kosa picking his bike up on side of trail.
Just trying to recover and settle into a nice pace at this point. Start catching some the class before us at the worse possible time on some tight single track. manage to get thru that.
Knowing I lost some time there I try to gain some ground. Kosa and another rider get around me about halfway on first lap. and tuck in behind kosa and ride his wheel for a few miles until the 3 climbs on the last part of the course. last climb I stand up and go by Kosa. Try to recover a bit up on ridge then see alex again about mile from finish of 1st lap. Go around him at this point finish off 1st lap riding Ricks wheel from town cycle.

Start of 2nd lap I make a weak attempt to pass him before the singletrack starts. he passes me right back about 50 yards in..lol all well.

Take a horrible line up one of the smaller hills and have to dismount and run up. I look back and see alex right behind me. We pair up again and catch and pass Rick at some point,,, dont remember where. Alex pulls a fairly large gap on me at this point. Far enough where i dont see him anymore. come up to last big climb and see him cramping about 20 yards from the crest. urgghh he was so close.

Give it all i had left to finish.. at this point, dont want to get caught into a sprint to the end.

5th overall my personal best in a cat2 race .

Now thats the steve i like to see, you are on the cusp of a podium. starting to ride MTB again after 8 weeks so we need to get together so i can be a pest and push you a bit...............if i still can.

upgrades

I don't know how they judge when you should upgrade or not, but I know of a couple guys that only race road and they aren't exactly great bike handlers or superfast and were able to upgrade to cat 3 merely on the volume of races they did in one year. It makes me laugh when they call the cat 5's "crash 5's" when all you need to do is register for a certain amount of races and you become eligible for an upgrade. I don't know if they have changed in the last year or so but I know the guys im talking about never had any high results and are now cat 3.
