Going Long and Hard.

So, just a quick double century today?

Shorter. I’m losing my touch now that I’m old and slow.

Lightish first day for the Montreal Trip. Left work after the group was already at the overnight so I’ll take a shorter rest tonight with no dinner so we’ll see how that plays out tomorrow…

And I already ripped my new tire. Luckily I was in the middle of Paterson when it happened 😂

Smart move going on the eastern side of Lake Champlain. The western side in NY is shit. Last year I did the Empire State Trail (it's not a trail, just shit roads with no shoulder) from Ticonderoga to the CA border and it's all shitty food & welfare motels. Couldn't wait to get into VT. Came back down through VT back to Ticonderoga. VT was awesome!

The route has been pretty good. A little more direct in spots than I’d map out for myself but nothing terrible. We rode the Empire State Trail pretty much all day yesterday and the last 30 miles the day before. The part through Albany sucks butthole but…

I met a fellow Rando Dork on an attempt to set the trans VT out/back record. I paced him for about an hour while getting the scoop on the new Ultra Record Rulebook. They changed some of the logistics and the stuff about needing an official in a follow car etc…So now I can make an attempt to officially take the NJ record, which I already unofficially have. No one has attempted the yo-yo at all so you just have to complete it and you’re the guy.

I’m fairly convinced I had Covid for a few days. Or maybe I just had a sore throat and was tired? Either way something was off so today was the 1st day back on the bike.

Jack’s Stairway To Hell Challenge started today and I signed up like a real asshat. Premise is super simple, climb as much as you want during week 1, and then add an amount each week to beat the previous. Easy. As long as you don’t go balls deep on week 1. What if your Commute goes over Washington Rock and you have a 600k in the Catskills this weekend?

This is a bad idea, but I saw a Lobster walking across the road riding in today.

Pimping my Roubaix. We had a blow out sale over the weekend and I picked up a pile of tires. Because I don’t get long out of tires so having a few dozen hanging around at all times seems like a good idea. Can you believe no one bought these green Michelins!!?? Idiots. So dope and no one bought them, so I did…

I also swapped my spare Red RD and cassette because that’s seriously over a pound lighter. I have 3 almost production kits so at some point I’ll swap the shifters too.

And I put my super fancy Zipp Carbon stem on this bike because it was just sitting in a box of parts and that seemed wrong.

And after the Fire Tower Brevet this weekend I bought some garden hose tires to hopefully end my tire woes. They claim to be bombproof. We’ll fucking test that claim 😂

These tires are so dope. They’re 33s but measure 38 on the Terra Wheels so they’re perfect. They’re also old enough to be TUBELESS and not TUBELESS READY, which is a huge deal. The industry took a huge wrong turn going tubeless ready, it’s so dumb. No one wants a race tire with a beefy bead. NO ONE.
