Don't Call it a Comeback

Week in review

So for the past week:

Mon 21: Spinner 1:08
Tue 22: 6mile deep snow ride 1:12
Wed 23: Chimney rock deep snow ride 1:29
Thu 24: Base training road ride, 2:37, 41 miles
Fri 25: Spinner 1:55 (longest ever, watched Blood, sweat and gears)
Sat 26: Rain
Sun 27: MTBNJ.com team ride, 3:43 (4:26 total), 65 miles, 3,400 elevation if that can be trusted

So this was 120 miles, and close to 12 hours, which is a lot for me. I guess I took advantage of 3 days off.

The issue may be that I only had one real base building ride, and I tried to simulate base on a spinner. The rest of them were pretty much whatever goes. Including today's team ride, where I know my HR did not behave as per plan, and probably quite the opposite. As bill (scalpel6) and I were talking while churning up Sourlands, pretty much all training discipline goes out the window on group rides anyways.

Not sure how this disruptive week of riding will impact my future fitness, I'll probably spontaneously explode or something at some point. Or melt. Or get fat and unfit. Or pull something.

Today was a real fun ride, we started at Ben's house and put down 65miles / 3:45 with a stop in Lambertsville at an out of the way coffee house, at Fred's insistence for a euro-coffee experience. There was a forklift and bags of coffee beans right in the main area. Awesome day for a ride, with an all-star cast of riders.

Funny we saw montclairbobby at that coffee house, and later on we ran into mtbdawgjeff. I believe at that moment we saw Jeff, Fred and Norm collided or maybe just rubbed up against one another and stayed up.

I woke up today with a sore throat and a stuffed up head. It got better with the ride, but now I'm flat on my ass.

I was wondering what was going on after we passed. It looked like some tomfoolery but maybe i just made you guys collide. Sorry, my bad. 😀

Yeah, the pace never stays where it "should", and yesterday was no exception. While it wasn't mid-season pace it really wasn't far off. We usually do those rides at 18-ish mph and yesterday was 17.4. Not exactly base material.

The key here is that you were out having fun. F base when it come to having fun. What is with the long spinner rides 😛uke:

have you been off woprk or working from home? Seems likes last week you have a lot of time to ride.

I think they were angling for an excuse to rub each other anyways 😉

I wasn't sure of the protocol, but since Ben didn't yell at me, I guess everything was cool 😀

Thu/Fri were off, and I took Wed off for a kids performance.

While the base stuff is boring as f*k, in a way I like just chillin' on the bike 😀

The spinner was either because of weather, and/or keeps me close to home when I need to be home. It isn't really an option, when I got to, I do it.

You need a project, like eating Clif bars (or squid) or mapping out NJ's hills (or squid).

Squid.

I like squid.

I should hold a round robin squid tourney.

Speaking of clif bars, I have grown extremely fond of chocolate brownie.

Remind me never to take your bike food advice 🙂

yeah really, choc brownie is the worst ever! I became addicted to pumpkin spice and gingerbread and all the stores have been out for awhile. Have not cared enough to order any though.

Sala with some nice russian mustard on black bread....a bit of vodka and maybe a pickle (malasol)....if they could make that into a cliff shot I'd eat it.

This is what I was taking a picture of as Kush was taking a picture of me.

I was trying to turn around to give you a hug and Norm tried taking me out. Not your fault! I blame Norm!!!😀😀😀

He was probably calculating grade/elevation to the square root of pi.

Ok, WTF is this squid thing. It better be funny as it has been mentioned numerous times so far. I have a feeling it will be part of a thread title soon enough.

Nobody answer him. It will just set him off on another rant.
