Don't Call it a Comeback

In other news, some of us are doing this on April 10th :getsome:

All of Cat 5 sold out 7 minutes. I'm registered for the Cat 5 35+, along with graveyardude, scalpel6 as this is the only cat we can do per licensing rules. Freddie is reg'd for Cat 5 under 35. Norm snoozed as he was eating squid at the time 🙁

Should be a blast. Apparently there are 15 unpaved sections and an ungodly amount of elevation. I better get back to building base

I am chopped liver.
BTW 4000' is not ungodly🙄

I dont think the total elevation is killer. But rather the fact that the climbs are fairly sustained; ranging from 1 to 4 miles of sustained climbing. Looks like 5 those in all. It looks like just after mile 40 is where the race happens. Last 2 climbs should do it.

Yesterday (thursday), Ben, Norm and I did 2 hours at Allamuchy. We pushed off at around 7am. It started snowing as we just got going. The snow wasn't a big issue at all, it was the sheets of ice underneath. I had a great time sliding around. Then I busted my chain, and like a total db, didn't bring my quicklink or tool. Norm saved the day.

Here is a video. http://vimeo.com/8491378

I had a bitch of a time editing today with PowerDirector (video editing software) It kept hanging. Through lots of debugging, I learned that for some reason I cannot have transitions adjacent to clips that have video effects like fast motion or exposure adjustments. M Does anyone else have this experience?

Today, I was working on bikes and doing stuff in the garage wearing Lakes. Just to see what happens with the toes. Sure enough, my feet got cold. In my garage. Where it's warm.

Obviously the problem is not the Lake shoes. In fact, I like them quite a bit, yesterday when we trudged through the frozen mud, I couldn't be drier. I don't know what the deal is, probably the sock, so the next experiment is a thin sock possibly not wool.

Today I rested as I'm trying to get over a cold and didn't ride. Tonight I play hockey, and tomorrow morning I'm hoping to grab some big road miles before the snow comes again. Probably Frenchtown, we'll see.

I experienced something like this. When I increased the image stabilization in Power Director the video got really choppy. It seemed as if PD was simply removing frames in order to reduce the shake in the video. The program also got very slow at that point as well. It seemed like a great feature when I found it but I abandoned it after seeing the results.

Is it possible that you are fastening them to tightly and therefore restricting the circulation. I'd be tempted to redo the garage experiment with them as loose as possible.

I think socks is one of the issues. I have had alittle better luck with a light wool sock, specifically the defeet wool-e-ators, which I were starting in the 50's and then into the 40's. The castelli's J has this year are a similar weight. You may even be able to get away with a summer sock.

I just got the toasty feet insoles from polarwraps, rode with them yesterday but it was like 30, so not a test.

I wear EMS mid-weight wool hiking socks with my Lakes, and my feet have been comfortable down into the teens. I agree with Ben that too tight will cause problems, no matter which sock you use.

I can have antishake fine on it's own, but when combined with transitions, the program hangs. My PC handles the processing fine with quad core and 8gb ram, but the app itself is funky with this regard. Sometimes gives an error message about a codec, but inconsistently. I think its buggy.

I kept stopping and restarting the video when it was running double-time. I thought there was something wrong. When I noticed that the music was fine I realized you actually did that on purpose. 😕

I did. I know from today you didn't approve of the fast motion, I'll use sparingly 🙂

Today was a 5 hour ride as another test, windy, in the 20s. With thin socks, the feet lasted probably 2 hours (as long as the thicker socks), then got numb. At expresso break, I put in toe warmers. I don't think anything will work. I typically keep all my shoes loose.
