Chimney Rock Conditions

Stop sign also not great, so skipping Shed, but old trails are fine. Tomorrow will be worse with higher temps

Small elevated log blocking the trail near the bottom of the ball field loop close to the river. Looks easy to move but it’s long and wedged into a pile of other deadfall. Needs a saw.

Went out yesterday am. Everything great except the new section of ball field loop, and Cromwell stop and shed. And this was early with temps in 20s. The newer spots w/ constant sun got messy quick. Avoid those and all was well
Good intel, thanks. I was convinced everything would be solid in the 20s. But I guess at this point we’ll need a few days below freezing for that.

No doubt is was solid overnight, those newer spots were solid under the much, but that top layer o muck was greasy. If you get out early enough before the sun bakes them should be fine. Or just avoid those 3 spots, rest of the park was terrific.

Same today. The new stuff behind the ballfield is a mess… if I had caution tape I’d have blocked it off - unfortunately, it’s not until you’re halfway in before you know how bad it is.
Shed was ok. Stop Sign - No🛑

Everything else seems nice and solid today though.. really great riding!

@hls811 and @rjr44 what time were you guys out there?
Started @ 11 finished around 2.

The ground did its part, just some areas that the sun won out. 🙂
I think the spots that were bad today will still be a mess tomorrow once the sun hits them.
There’s definitely plenty to ride, no need to stay away - just avoid the newer dirt.

Rain and warm temps this coming week -payback for the awesome conditions we had all summer.

How are conditions? That looks pretty dry…
Yellow/green was mostly real nice, small number of damp spots. Same with red.

Orange guard rail climb had some soft spots and some puddles. Down to the river, along river, and switchbacks up from river were perfect. Rest of orange was VERY wet (the climb up from gilbride over to guard rail trail).

Skipped white/ball field/Cromwell as I figured would be more bad than good spots.

Did blue, white, behind the ball fields, the frisbee golf section, orange and red. Saw tracks on orange and lower red. Surprised not more people out. It was hard but rolled okay. It’s getting heavy now and beginning to thaw where the sun is getting to it.

Joe, Do you think it will be a sheet of ice tomorrow or just crunchy?
If it wasn’t ridden a lot I feel like it will be crust ice over firm snow and a very difficult ride. If it was ridden thoroughly and packed down it’ll be a good day. I don’t think it got warm enough to make glare ice over packed snow.
During my ride I was the only one making tracks except for someone else on parts of ball field, orange and lower red.
