Car-spotting thread

This is crazy. Modern diesels aren't even that loud. I used to have to turn off the 7.3 while going thru a drive-thru (that thing sounded awesome tho!) My current Cummins Ram isn't loud at all and it's a LOT more powerful than the 7.3 (and a lot cleaner too). IMO, it's a great package and I cannot see why anyone would want to tune a modern diesel in one of the big 3 trucks.

The black smoke trend seems to be dying down (thankfully). I had an OM617 with a modified IP and the stock turbo couldn't keep up with the fuel delivery. A little throttle and the EGT's would go up very quickly. The little smoke was fun but...

Regarding black smoke, Gale Banks comments on another group's diesel tuning is really good: https://www.thedrive.com/news/33384...-banks-torches-hoonigans-967-hp-diesel-camaro

BTW - I love how Banks correctly says lb/ft but almost says ft/lb like the other guy uses when talking at 9:44.

isn't it multiplication not division? which is commutative.
but i like pound-feet better anyway....

Yes, but the convention is that ft-lbf is used for energy, as in the amount of energy transferred by providing a pound of force over a distance of one foot. So, ft-lbf for torque isn't technically wrong, but it does go against convention.

Cool - learnt something new!

If we're going to be pedantic about it, I'd much prefer lbf-ft, as it's a force acting at a distance from a pivot and not a force per distance, like a spring rate. 🙂

I wasn't trying to be pedantic about it. It is just something I picked up on in another interview with Banks and how he said lb-ft is the correct terminology.

I'll have to start using the lbf-ft terminology for engine outputs. But will keep it to lb-ft when talking about spring rates 😉

Shit. I drive a straight piped Camaro to work and there's a line down the block for me to work on their bikes. What can I drive to stop that from happening?
I could lend you my exploder. People are scared to park near it, maybe it'll have the same effect on customers.

looks like they adjusted the times- 4:30 to 7:30pm with two meets left for the year
I'll get there early as my lights are still rather dim

I'm planning to go this one on Thursday in Bound Brook, I met the guy who runs this at the Sunday meet up in Warren downtown

I get off at 7 so won't make Boonton. Maybe BB though.

That seasucker rack looks great...but just started to look at them and dang they are expensive for those tiny things!
Sure as hell know I didn't buy it new! ha
I only was using it for a QR fork before but finally at the 15mm thru axle adapter. It took over 2 months to get to me due to the pandemic.
