Car-spotting thread

My dad loves to tell the story of how there was a leftover green 427 sitting at Hopkins Ford in Jenkintown, Pa for months, right by where I grew up. He tried to convince my grandfather to cosign for him but no-go. Still bitter to this day. 😀
haha, ya my dad always likes to tell me about how in 66 he was working for hackensack ford and begged his dad to let him buy one (at age 18), my grandfather apparently laughed his balls off.

case in point, the Goben cobra...built from 95% off the shelf car parts so it could be considered something other than a kit car....doors from a GM J body (cavalier), tons of mustang 2 parts...it was an abomination...shelby sued them out of existence and they cars were mostly destroyed.

That said, some of the replicas look amazing and im sure some of them are much better than the originals in terms of build quality, better materials, engines, etc.

Others however...not my style anyway...god those side pipes...like right off the rack at auto zone next to the chrome chevy 350 valve covers.

Top one is a backdraft cobra...those crappy side pipe guards are their signature...im sorry if your going to own a cobra and you want side pipes, you should wear your calf burns with pride 🙂 ..bottom is a 65/66 vette judging by the vertical fins behind the front wheel.

speaking of my car....yesterday was the 25th anniversary of my father dying, so I took my son on a trip to cliffs ice cream....something my dad and I used to do with the car alot when i was a kid.

I see my son having that same feeling I used to have when i was his age riding around in this car.....DAD THESE PEOPLE NEXT TO US ARE TAKING PICTURES....lol....just reminds me exactly of when I used to say to my dad. omg, I loved when my dad would drive me to school in it.....Lol...I was thinking about that...even if his school was open...just wouldnt be the same me having to unbuckle him from his car seat....how uncool would that be

I finally took a picture of it clean, in the sun

So what's the dealio, is it all done? When can we swap mustangs for a drive - I want to see if I really want a 60s classic car. If it's terrifying to drive, I'm gonna bag the idea.

PS I think Bob will get a kick out of a WOT 0 to XX (1XX?) run in the gt350

Just don't turn.

I still remember the feeling of getting dropped off one day in 4th grade in this...I had been wanting to go for a ride in the car forever, one morning my dads buddy who still has the car picked me up... Your son will def remember it forever.

So left to do....
Alignment, scheduled for next tuesday...needs that BAD
Fender still needs to be aligned, might be able to get to the body shop as soon as tomorrow....once that is done, then i can put the lower trim on the drivers side
Drivers side door panel needs to go on
Passenger side window needs to be adjusted...i have it in, but its not rolling up cleanly...its like 127 way adjustable and I spent 2 hours playing with it one night and gave up...so I need to get on that again and finish it.
there are squeaks, rattles and chirps that i have been ironing out....still have several to find.

Maybe over the winter....
valve seals need to be replaced
speedo cable repo that I bought didnt work, so i need to get another one
the car is sitting ever so slightly off in the rear, high on the passenger side...i cannot explain this other than maybe the traction bars i had on the car for 20 years warped one of the leaf springs? not sure.
few spots in the paint that the boys need to wet sand a little more.
oh and I need to design and construction a hitch for it bc nobody makes a trailer hitch for a 67 mustang and putting a bike in this car is really hard since it doesnt have a fold down rear seat. I thought about converting it, but it was a shit ton of money and i dont like putting my dirty bike in my car anyway.

Hmm, well best way I can describe driving my mustang...its not boring....you BEG for red lights and its a blast going thru the gears....would I want to take it on a drive with you, @Carson and @GSTim on twisty roads?...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lol. I think as a drivers car, (although i have never driven one) a cobra replica would be a great mix of fun and the feel of an old classic car. Like you can hammer turns with it, tear off from stop lights, its got some classic appeal....I mean part of the fun of taking my 67 out...i always run into someone who tells me their life story, etc...its a great conversation piece and I LOVE peoples reactions to it. Kids asking me if its an 87....teenagers taking selfies in front of it...(this actually happened on saturday lol) its just fun to drive around in and goddam i never get tired of listening to it idle at stop lights and shake other people windows lol. I have to say, i ran into 2 different british guys over the weekend and both of them were like drooling the same kind of way I would drool over an original british sierra cosworth....I thought that was interesting. This women with two misbehaving kids at cliffs....she stops yelling at them to say to me...omg that is so pretty lol...Like it just brings smiles to people faces, i really enjoy that.

awesome...hes also got 2 t-birds and a ferrari on his shelf? lol
yeah the Ferrari on the shelf is actually a parts car for the exact same car..must be nice right? there are a ton of cars in this guys shop. 67 etype, a DB-7 from the late 90s, every generation of a vette including this year and more. Ill be there in a few days I can grab a ton more photos

spent some tine in the garage tonight with junior playing with the carb on the mustang. When I had it off on friday I noticed the accelerator pump diaphragms had some sweat around them so I replaced them tonight...I also did some more reading on Holleys and larger than stock cams...such as mine where the car is making less than 15in of vac at idle.....

hjxrHT6.jpg

@Dingo you might be familiar with this, but I was not....The idle transfer slots?

this adjustment here
gjukC7h.jpeg

which adjusts the secondary butterflies....I have been reading that it is a good idea for cars with bigger cams to expose these slots about .030, or make them a "square" roughly
Wi72hOn.jpg

so I tried that tonight...I had to redo the idle mixture setup, but it seemed to smooth out the idle and get rid of any hesitation....my eyes were burning standing behind it anymore either....but only a garage test, ill have to try it out on the street.

That is correct. Also need to use a power valve based on idle vacuum reading. 6.5 is the most commonly used, but depending on the cam I've gone as low as 4.0. The best way to tune is with A/F ratio meter and a vacuum guage.
