3 + Da Snow = 4.

1/2 day at work so I miss the dark point today. Kinda slushy out on the way home anyways...

Annoying freezing rain - 1 point
1 hour of riding after sunset- 1 point
Above added together =3 points

A consistent pattern the past few storms in that it snows during the day then freezing rain/sleet in the evening. I was thinking to myself on the first half of the ride on how fast and effortlessly I was cruising along. When I turned around to go north with a soaked balaclava I found out the reason why- tail wind. Time to ride back into the wind, oh joy😁. Trails started out grippy then deteriorated as the ride went on. Even with the issues was still great to get out.

Zwift 1 hour =.5

I was hoping I could go out at lunch and do some loops but we got more snow here than some said we would at least 6-7 inches. It was coming down pretty good at lunchtime too abs didn’t feel like debating the topic of me riding in the snow with everyone at home more than ready to share their opinion.

So basement it is for an Easy recovery spin with more Netflix.

1 hr + Dark + Frozen Rain = 3 pts

Fat Bike on Dark Country Road with Big Boy Lights on Dirt Bike Helmet.

Salt Truck stopped salting as it passed me today, unlike last week, when I was pelted by salt 2 times during same ride.

Eating Mardi Gras food tonight, 2 days late as UPS lost my 1st Sandwich and King Cake.

0.5-pts

During the previous storms I had been able to get out for a neighborhood ride after clearing the driveway. I was looking forward to getting out this evening once I was done cleaning the driveway. That quickly came to end when I watched a car slide around on a pretty flat and straight street. At that point I wasn't feeling like it would be safe for a ride, so retreated to the basement.

Cleaned and lubricated the chain on the trainer bike last night. I didn’t realize how noisy the drivetrain had become with the bike spinning in the basement.

Let the good times roll. Looks like you have the traditional King Cake. One thing I don’t miss is the plastic baby hidden in the cake.

Shot Peened
This is the second time this week everything was coated in ice. Walked to the main road again and it was less than desirable. Always fun riding 6 mph down a hill that is 40+ on a road bike. Hit the canal and the same section plowed and rode in a snow mobiles tracks for awhile but it was sooo slow. Turned around at the Kanye 2020 sign and couldn’t ride my own track and walked back to the plowed section. Headed over to the sled hill, which didn’t see much action, mainly because I guess it is hard packing down 8-10” on a sled. Kids have no work ethic. However the “big” tabletop looked ridable and after a test run was able to hit the landing. However after 5-6 hits, the lip was getting blown out, as was the landing, and I fell on the last attempt. That was about the 15 min of fun for this hour and a half. Not even going to act like the rest was remotely fun.
Pics of Paul’s new shot peened stems.

Bob ride day, and with the wind and limited time, back to Manasota key for the 3rd time this week. And for the third time this week, uninvited drafters. What's the deal with these people? at least announce you are going to draft - today Bob and I were about 5 miles down into the wind when 2 guys latched on. At least one guy took the lead for about a half a mile, then they died and dropped off. Big surf today from the S wind

force participation - up the wattage in the front, pull 30 seconds, wave next person through, repeat.
Sitting up front, invites them to sit in. but i agree, a quick ask can't hurt.
if you want to shake them, use a cross wind leg, they lose their advantage.

Lol, how many times has this worked in the real world?

Remember Rick, they help push you if they are close on your wheel...the “air bubble effect”.

Sure, it polite to ask but if it really bothers you, you just swing way to one side and slow up. you can do the elbow flick thing but they will get the picture if they aren’t oblivious. If they stick to your wheel, then you either just let them be or try and drop them. If you can’t drop them you swing out and slow waaaay down and they will go around. Blowing a snot rock helps with deterring them too.

You can also do things like mess with them and keep pulling alittle to the side so they catch the head wind.

usually if you pass someone and they jump on, you are stronger than them and they will try and hang on for a bit but eventually they explode. Most people out there have zero idea how to pace themselves (which is likely what happened when the guy pulled and popped).

Haha yeah the guys today were chumps. I don't care I just would like to know if someone is drafting me. I get startled when I turn around and someone is right on my wheel. I don't draft strangers but if I did, I would at least announce it. I did yesterday when I caught the lady from monday, tho she didn't respond. Roadies are weird.

It's funny I haven't had anyone draft me since once a year ago. I think it's this one long stretch into a strong headwind that has people looking for help. I'm gunning for ponytail lady tho - she still owes me 8 miles!

May I suggest switching to a steady diet of garlic and broccoli (as deterrent) and beans (for propulsion of said deterrent toward the drafters)? The air bubble should do the rest...
