BIYF Winter 2015 Smack Down

Check out my 20.8 mi Ride on Strava: http://app.strava.com/activities/245362875

Headed South today before the rain starts here. Strong head wind going and almost as strong coming back. I love passing Roadies on my Trek 4200 Hybrid.

headed over to the randolph trails to see if I would run into the fat bike crowd pre riding the martys race course, but I seemed to be the only idiot out there.

Bit of a slog in 6+ inches of concrete. Probably wouldnt have been so bad but im currently sic as a dog. Probably should have skipped today, but i get two days a week of day light this time of year and they are treasured.

Sandy hook ride. 1 hr. 11 miles.

Nice to have a national park basically to myself. Had a great shot set up next to a big gun on officers row but the cold keeps zapping my iPhones battery.

2 points (park plus ride). Wanted rain point but only rained for first 15 minutes of ride. Oh well.

+1 for consistency

3 pts total for day.

New Overpeck Park bike paths today. Never ridden my bike there before. It was big enough for a few loops and not so bad w/ headphone on. There were some guys wind ski'ing.

In the park there is a 9/11 memorial. My childhood friend's name is on it. It looks like someone was rubbing on it for a while. Quite sad.

There was a very slight drizzle throughout, I hesitate to call it rain. The judges can decide:

Ride = 1pt
Park = 1pt
Rain = 1pt (?)

Total = 2 or 3 pts

Friday afternoon, had to drop a package at UPS, so I decided to ride nearby at Allamuchy or Deer Park. Last minute decision was Allamuchy. Yellow and yellow/white trails were icy.

I ventured out on my ancient rigid 26er as I need to bleed brakes on my 29er.

Looks like a snow day in NJ! No extra points for me, but Baby Jesus ride for me. Drew blood as usual .... darn cacti! Any of you ready to come visit ??
Such beautiful scenery 🙂 Much better than the slushy mess outside my door!

I had to run some errands today, so I checked the forecast on weather.com. It was about 3:30, and the forecast said that occasional showers were going to start around 6. Due to my lack of proper biking rain gear, I wasn't going for rain point, so I figured that gave me plenty of time to run the errands on my bike, and at least pick up a ride point. I biked over to my first stop, taking about 20 minutes or so, and did some quick shopping. As I walked out of the store, I realized that it was raining. Nice job on the forecast, Weather Channel. My next stop is in a strip mall across the street, so I head over there, and take care of business. I then have a decision to make... I could either just finish off the remaining part of the 45 minutes for the ride point, or I could start the clock over, and go for the 45 minutes of rain. Of course, there's the danger that it could stop raining before that, and I'd miss the point. Well, I figured that since I was going to get wet either way, I might as well put in the extra time and go for the rain point. So, I just rode around some of the local streets, hoping that the rain wouldn't stop. [This is probably the first time biking where I've hoped the rain WOULDN'T stop.] I reached the 45 minutes just in time... my water resistant, but not waterproof, outer layer, which was previously repelling water, was now starting to get soaked, but hadn't managed to get through to my inner layer yet, although my feet were soaked.

By 6 PM, the time the Weather Channel had forecast rain to start, there was not a drop in sight.

Scoreboard updated.

was thinking that xc skiing could count until Iggy posted an upskirt mooseknuckle shot. Geez, this is a family forum!

Scoreboard is updated! For you slackers, i've entered your rides. As always, double check my work!

------

Saturday was moving day on the tour. While KenS & Norm were locked in their personal battle, Soundz has snuck into the lead by one. AndyJ rounds out the top 4 only two back.

Glenn has jumped into the competition, and is looking forward to some snow!

Who is going to take Week 3?

Maybe we should have a fantasy league for side bets.....

-------

7 weeks left in the series before tournament week!

There will be a some sort of prize for the series winner - i dunno yet.
There will be some sort of tournament for the weekly winners, and something for everyone else.

perhaps free housing in the desert southwest? Some slightly used bikes-direct fatbike tires? a half-off discount on jorba membership - Get the $200 level for $100....???? I'll write your vary own song parody....many possibilities.

Keep Pedaling.
