6 Mile Run Conditions

Slick as shit.

Lots of fat bike tracks from yesterday.

Cut out 2 huge blowdowns from the rainstorm.

I expect a zillion people out on sat.

We need a hard freeze badly.

**note the standing water in the left corner. Water table is super high**

I rolled out of the Canal Lot at 7am. Did a full loop (Blue, Red out to 27, Orange Red White Red back to the CanalLot) at a very mellow pace. Everything was frozen solid early, but as I was coming back on the White Trail, things were already starting to soften up (about 8:30). There was one decent size tree down on Red (it was about 1/4 mile west of the Red/Orange junction).

I bet it is a slopfest now. I will sort that tree in the next few days.
(If you see fallen trees, please try and take a photo. This helps me figure what saw to bring)

I saw the blow downs today J. Thanks for taking care of them. I had hoped to ride after work, but, when I walked in a bit to check things out I decided to just do a bit of work and split. I nicked a few wet spots and closed down a cheater line (all close to the 27 lot). I also noticed the beaver dam has the water up pretty close to the trail right at the area of the first big blow down.

Maybe easier to crib the trail @ the edge of the pond with the big logs from the blow down, backfill, and see how it goes? They are all set up for winter, and they will literally move heaven and earth to rebuild. I think that use of a "Flow Device" (I looked it up on Wiki) in the Spring could be a good way to go. Low cost, easy maintenance, and no need to relocate them? Everybody wins!

Wait, "Beaver Dam" wasn't just a description of stuck debris in the stream?

We have actual beavers in 6Mile?

Look at the pointy stumps closely and you can see the teeth marks. You can also see areas of bark stripped off surrounding trees. It may have started as some big trees that caught up some debris. Beavers look for spots like that. Yup Beavers! Nature!

Who knew? Kinda cool doe.🙂

Hope nobody is seriously thinking about ripping out a beaver dam... hard to image the park people would sign off on that. If the trail is getting soggy- move the trail.
