6 Mile Run Conditions

Hope nobody is seriously thinking about ripping out a beaver dam... hard to image the park people would sign off on that. If the trail is getting soggy- move the trail.

Honestly it isn't that bad of an issue. The real issue arises when their dams fail in a spring flood. In all seriousness, it will flood and close south Middlebush rd. I can move the affected trail for sure. This will be less work than removing a dam. I know this as I remove a few in Maine on our property.

I haven't seen an actual dam or any proof that it is actually beavers. I just saw that the water lever is about 4-5 foot higher than I have ever seen it net rte 27. I will scout it this week and report it to the park's naturalist and let her make a call.

If there are new beaver dam's as apposed to older ones, they should in fact be removed for the reason's Jdog stated. A 4 to 5 foot rise in water level would be dangerous for any future storms/ flooding. Should it give way, a massive amount of water all at once would take out bridges and such down stream.

Great call as far as letting the park naturalist decide the proper plan of action.

I actually enjoy the fact that we have a dam. I would hate to see it removed. If anything- the dam will help prevent flooding.

I remember when I was young, our road flooded when a beaver dam blew out. We then had a long stretch of sub zero weather. Ice jams like whoa.

I will find out what the park thinks this week.

If you see me wearing a beaver hat, then you know what they decided.

Beavers for sure.

This is between 27 and the powerlines. At least one busy beaver. Classic beaver setup.

Must have been at it for months. Crazy amount of work done here.

As of now I am going to let them be as the trail is not underwater. If it gets much deeper, we could be in trouble.

Is it an option to just close that section and have orange the only route to 27? I can't remember the last time I took red but when I did it always seems to have wet spots

I first noticed beaver activity last spring. They started building this dam over the summer. There was a huge tree that fell across the creek and they built off of that. I agree with J- as of now... it doesn't really effect anything. But... I enjoy riding by and seeing the changes week to week.

I had a beaver blast across the trail right in front of me over the summer. Freaked me out at first because it was BIG and fast, but no mistaking that tail.

I thought I was looking at more than just the trail in front of me, but obviously not. I'll have to get over there and see this, even if I end up hiking for it. Haven't seen a good beaver dam in years.
