6 Mile Run Conditions

a few weeks back we sold about 30 bikes at a yard sale at the Plainfield bike exchange
every one buying a bike was offered a helmet, after asking if it was free, which it was not ($5), no one bought a helmet 🙁

... even though minors in NJ must wear helmets ... this is why there should be breeding laws.

another interesting helmet observation from this weekend
A number of riders at the Jersey City bike tour wore turbans (it may be called something different), think they were mostly Sikhs, and obviously did not comply with the helmet rule for the ride

Does anyone know if the helmet laws are exempt for turban wearers?

Interesting, because I believe if the turban came off, they would still be in compliance with the cover your head in respect to god thing....if they put on a helmet.

Solid 3 tonight... A few more puddles than expected, the fields were so dry, but not bad. By tomorrow they'll all be gone.

So I went riding last night and on my way from S. Middlebush road to the 27 lot I had just passed the long wooden bridge and the concrete bridge and was up along the field in the woods and a guy passes me and seemed very flustered and says in an urgent voice "Watch it, Im pretty sure I just saw a black bear!". Has anyone come across any bears back there?

I live in North Brunswick (basically six mile) and it is possible, but not likely.

We've had to two times, that I can recall, had a bear sighting in the area in the 20 years I've been out here.

I was at six mile between 5-7 yesterday and I saw a guy with a very old shaggy dark haired dog with no tail. I actually did a double take cuz it did look a bit like a small bear.

But ya never know.....

I was wondering if that was your forum name.... It was nice to meet you. The guy with the tail-less dog passed by when I was packing up.

Sooooo many people use six mile, riding with a bear bell might not be a bad idea..... Maybe avoid a collision or two.... 🙂

Spent a few hours doing some much needed bridge repair this am.

Glad to see most of this stuff holding up.

Pretty sure I will never use TREX decking again.

Please pm if you see loose or broken boards

Well crap - guess I better rethink my deck rebuild plan...

Wait - you mean USE Trex and I'll be fine?

Yes - but i wouldn't use TREX products again - timbertech ftw.
The product can not be used in a cantilever situation, and must have 12" joist spacing. Lets go over to off topic to discuss.

Yeah, I got on the trails around 10:30 from the rte 27 lot (which was almost full when I arrived, but there was also an event going on at the soccer field). It was a zoo. There was a lot of opposing traffic just to reach the red/orange split. The traffic very slowly decreased throughout the day, but really dropped off around 4:30, which is typical. On these long days, Sunday evenings seem to be a good time to ride there to avoid weekend traffic - I've noticed the same at Allaire.

[During my ride, I came upon a group who decided to take a break and laid their bikes down right on the trail. What the heck?]

Nicely done on the bridge repair work

I finally got to meet @Norm, who I ran into during my second lap!
