24 Hours of Alllamuchy

There have been very few pre-registrations for the race. In order to keep this event alive we need to all step it up and sign up. The addition of an 8 hour race is a nice option also. Riding this event as a team is a blast and you'll remember it for the rest of your life.
The transition of ownership of the event will be a huge hurdle for this year.
Hope to see you all out there!

I find it curious that the "new ownership" ignored MTBNJ's offer to actively assist with promotion and have a more formal race day presence this year. You would think that they would jump at the opportunity to get the help and exposure :hmmm:

People always say not this year

People alway say they are not going this year put it seem like you always see them there.

A lot of people might be in the "wait and see" mode since the weather forced a cancellation last year.

Numbers were way down last year. I can't imagine they'll be better this year.

It's too bad that this race has seen it's better days. You would have thought the new promoters would have had open arms to MTBNJ in helping revitalize a long standing tradition. The very fact that our friends from NY,Pa,De and Md who visit this site frequently would be on top of this race. There are not many 24hr races to feed the endurance race junkies in the general area as it is. I hate to see it go away but really get the feeling it's a lame duck at this point.

Muchy

I'm curious to see how the event pans out this year. I've done it for many years except last year. The race organizers were fantastic for taking their time to even do it. Cant control the weather. Me and 2 other guys are on the fence about this year. We liked the whole biking/camping/bonding with the guys thing but the laps get a little repetitive. I think my one friend summed it up, "I'd rather do an all day epic ride in Muchy, Ringwood or WayWay, come home, jump in my hottub and throw and nice steak on the grill with a couple of beers in front of the firepit and maybe catch a college football game on ESPN and then sleep in my own bed...." I guess this is what happens with age.

I swore off this race last year, but now that the BSA took it over I'm considering the 8hr race. The price is right, it's local and with a 10am start time you don't need to deal with tents, lights or 3.5 tons of food and water. Also the 8hr race fee stays constant so you can register the day before if the weather holds out. So you can put me down as definite maybe. Hopefully.
Though it is the week after this race which I'm doing:

and that race is a week after this race which I'm also doing:

Bring the 50k back!

Come on Weber. You know you want to see this race return. This was the best race in the state and it's begging to come back!

Yeah, come on, Kris. And MTBNJ will even help you with getting it back into production!

Stick a fork in it, its done..............

Thinking you're right. Only done it a couple of times, but after last years early quit it kind of lost a lot. I am thinking of doing it to see what the BSA's do with it, but there might be to much involvement from the previous "owners" to make it worth while.

To bad you can't do the 8 hour and if you like it add the other 16 hrs on...

I've said it before: no, you can not change the weather, but you can predict it. It pours EVERY YEAR! Time to pick a different weekend entirely! There is a reason why that is the only weekend the BSA don't want it! If you don't want trail erosion, don't hold it during monsoon season. I was not a fan of having my chip taken when I returned from my night lap last year. They put in zero effort to give people in the camp sites a heads up.
I wish the new owners all the best, but their first mistake is holding it at the end of August

Here you go pick the month:

Everyone I know who used to race 24 hour races is now racing 50's and 100's (myself included- I haven't raced the 24HOA since 2004). 24 hour races are dying all across America- it's not just an Allamuchy phenomenon. And the ultras are getting bigger and bigger each year.

Of course, scheduling it for the same weekend as the first US World Cup round in half a decade is a colossally bad idea, too, even if that is the historical date for the event. The World Cup trumps everything.

True

All A Muchy was the best........ Certainly the best trails in NJ. I thought Bob was the facilitator of that one!:hmmm:
