2/20.

Fredrick Watershed. This was a bit of a last-minute decision when some of my DC friends started making plans Friday morning. My original plan was to do a long road ride. Instead, I did a 3-hour suffer-fest where I ran out of water and ran out of energy. When packing, I had delusions of staying in DC and going to Bryce on Sunday, but after I finished the ride, I knew that plan wasn't happening.

Unfortunately, a side effect of nearly killing myself is I didn't get any interesting pictures. Just didn't have the energy to get the phone out.

Frack, that hurt...

One pre-start picture, before I knew what I was in for...

After the ride we hung out in the lot nursing our aching legs for about 30 minutes before the skies opened up.

I renewed my Jorba membership a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, I don't remember getting a card.

I hear that place is no joke. I have a friend who lives in the area and told me about it. Kudos!!!!

Finally getting around to posting

Rough start to the challenge. Was pretty spent after work and making sloppy mistakes in the woods. In an overgrown area I had a horrible pedal-strike and ended up going down like a lawn dart. Could not anticipate it at all. My garmin apparently sent the emergency call to my wife and mother and I nearly gave them a heart attack b/c my phone was on silent. I broke my stem Garmin mount and apparently bent my derailleur pretty bad. Tried riding away after the crash and the chain was thrown into the spokes. That AXS upgrade was gonna happen anyway. At least my sidekick Charlie had a great time swimming at every creek stop. Unfortunately his paw pads keep breaking down. I need to figure something out because it is devastating seeing him limp after a ride.

Was up at the in laws in CT. It was an absolutely gorgeous day to be riding. A bit hot, but it is July... so expected. I have to get ready for Wilderness, so did some of the most brutal gravel climbs I could. Never saw my Garmin hit 23% before. The problem around CT is that all the gravel roads go straight up the hills and then bomb straight down. The downhills are pretty sketchy... so they don't give you any rest. Road was out in one spot so I had a nice creek crossing where I just sat and cooled off. 40 miles and 4100ft of climbing was a good day. My avg speed was abysmal, but I felt good with the effort. These roads around Roxbury make Bedminster seem like a walk in the park. I can't get over how beautiful the landscapes were.

Most of my teammates are in the DC area, so they ride there a lot. I try to get down there every couple of months or so. Some of the trails are brutally technical. Rock gardens for days... The Strava miles and elevation gain shown belie how physical it can be to ride there.

Day 1 of 20

I heard good things about Graham Hills so decided to go check it out. Fun flow with some sporatic tech. I would go back! The feature in the picture reminds me of something I rode in Bentonville.

I'm in good standings with JORBA. I donate money each year. Unfortunately the only park I do TM at is not a JORBA park. LMK if proof is needed.

After the first 10 miles, I went back out and did a little more exploration on the ebike:
