Ride 30/31
Sun is brutal. Went out at 6am to a local trailhead that looked promising from discussions at the rental place and trail forks. Not so good at following directions and ended up on a gravel washed out jeep trail. Not so much fun. Got my bearings and did a fun loop up to and around the ridge. Fantastic. So glad I rented an e-mtb. Every bike I’ve seen on the trails has been an e-mtb. On to the Hoover dam with family today. Even without the stupid heat the sun is brutal.

Day 18/20 - not gonna make it :-(

The back half of this week sucked.. my wife had to work mornings which put me in charge of camp drop-off duty. Mad meetings every day, an impromptu vet visit on Thursday evening, trying to clear the decks on Friday ahead of going away for a week.

So my most-likely last ride of July was today and involved my dropper cable snapping as I got to the top of a climb. Was able to work my way down to the road and roadie’d it back to town. Lou at Pedal Montclair had a cable for me, so fortunately, I’ll have a working bike for our trip to the Cape.

Tomorrow’s a driving day so even if I can squeak my ride in, that would be 19/20 and maths.

Ride #20

Yesterday was my last riding day in Whistler. It's almost too hot and dusty to be riding park, but we did some laps anyway. I also did a small ebike ride to town to return the rental, but I didn't bother posting it. Crank Works competition is in two weeks so we have witnessed the course grow and evolve over the week. I'm excited to watch the pros ride it, albeit on tv.

Now the long trek back to NJ begins.

Day 30 part 1: Last Call for Black Bear

Saturday morning and I picked a ride where I wanted to hit a few gems before we wrap up tomorrow - Shonter Shuffle and Black Bear. We knocked out a solid 16 mile ride this morning and did a lot of the good stuff in a version of the big loop that we do. We all went on the ride (me/D/Simon & Utah/Bob) and maybe it was a bit of a big loop for the whole group. But we survived it and it was a blast. We saw 4-5 people that we knew there, which is not abnormal for us these days.

I really never want to say this is it for the year, but it might be the last Black Bear run in 2022. Or maybe it won't be. We'll see.

30/31: Edison Mines. More local exploring. This used to be the Fight Club spot over 15 years ago. So much potential....

The monument states even after a personal loss $2MM when the Mines closed in 1900, Edison said could still live on a telegraph operators salary of $75 a week. Better than working at the Cumberland Mine.
