After skiing in 4 different counties after the last snow storm I say that Ringwood in Passiac Co. had the best snow. I skied in Monmouth, Union and Middlesex counties and while some of these places had more snow it was wetter. Ringwood did not recieve any mixed precip with the most recent storm and as a result the conditions are better (drier fluffy snow=more gooder)
Sunday 1/30
Spent 4 hrs at Ringwood today covering a lot of ground. I parked in the B lot because C was still snowy.
Skied down to C lot and took the fire road up to Skylands and made my way to Shepards Lake via Skylands & race course. Once at Shepards lake I went down the fire road of the race course and followed some snow shoe tracks around the lake. I doubled back and took the race course back to Skylands and made my way to Warm Puppy. I made first tracks down Warm pup which wasn't so bad in the soft snow...it was easy to hit the breaks. I then headed over toward Ryerson school and 6 bridges area. I followed snow shoe tracks near 6 bridges then doubled back again and made my way back to lot B.
Even though Ringwood had less snow then central jersey there was still plenty of cover over rocks. The fire roads where groomed with snowmobiles and snow shoers which made for easy miles. Skylands, race course and Warm puppy where hard earned miles especially up hill in the soft snow. With this much snow at a technical place like Ringwood it would be nice to have a 70mm ski with edges...there was some real BC stuff in here. I made it down some of the tech stuff on my skinnys(52mm) but I didn't look pretty. But then again downhills with 90 degree turns at the bottom are tough on any ski😉
Do any of you use gators to keep your boots dry? If so what brand do you use. I am thinking in investing in a pair, my feet are soaked after every outing.
