'08/'09 season thread or something.

Another one bites the dust

I believe the entire chain went OoB. I think they had been trying to close for years.
I was about to go exchange my sons boarding gear for some new season rentals this past weekend and imagine my surprise to get a letter from Four Seasons Ski on Rt 22 that they had closed their doors for good. Sure they weren't a chain store but they were a good place to go with friendly staff. I will now be forced to Ski Barn or Pelican unless anyone has any other good suggestions within 30 minutes of Edison.

To their credit,, they did set up a return arrangement with Pelican so I can get my deposit back from last years rental.

Avoid Pelican at all costs. Three years ago I had been eyeing up a pair of Volkl Mantra Pow Pow skis, they finally went on sale and I picked them up from Pelican. I had them mounted and was packing my car getting ready to go on a trip to Vermont when I noticed a slight problem. The idiot who mounted the bindings drilled too far into the ski and the mounting screws were breaking through the base of the ski. Needless to say the skis we're trashed and they were not replaceable. Through the entire ordeal Pelican was rather unprofessional, and in the end I got nothing out of them other than a refund... So go to them if you want to buy a hot tub, don't bother with your winter apparel.

Sunday River in Maine is making snow!!! 😀 Soon enough, soon enough...

My friend went to A-Basin this weekend, I hate him!!!

I'm planning to go to Killington for Thanksgiving weekend. I can't wait to get out on the snow!!!!!!! The countdown begins...

I used to go up to Killington every year with my family for Thanksgiving. Some years were amazing, others terrible. One year, maybe around '96 we were skiing with 6" of powder and they had about 90 trails open with Bear and all... Hope you have a good time! Think SNOW!

As usual I ignored your advice and went to Pelican (East Brunswick) since they are closest to my house. They were very helpful, told me my son didn't need a new board and I should keep the one I had rented at four seasons the year before (it's now mine since four seasons was a purchase/lease thing) and rented me a pair of boots that fit him better.

I told them I needed some new snowboard boots and they let me try on just about everything in the store. When I didn't like any of them they didn't pressure me to buy anything and even recommended I try some of the brands they don't carry.

Glad you had a better experience then I have had with them (I additionally know others who have had horror stories).

Are you getting a Hunter big lift card?

I am looking at a Nor'Easter pass. That's good at Mt Snow, Attitash, Jack Frost/Big Boulder and Crotched. Has anyone been to Mt Snow? I'm curious how the north-facing side of the mountain is. How is the mountain overall? I'm thinking of getting a house with some friends, so any info I can get would really help.

Mt Snow is pretty cool... the northern face (if that is where the glades/tree runs are) is a good time. it has a little less vert than most VT places, but it being that half hour or whatever time it takes to go more north makes it worth hitting. every once in a while, i will do a sunday blitz run to mt snow, leave real early in the morning (like 4am), drive to VT, ski all day, leave at 4pm, and get home just in time to pass out. i usually hit mt snow because it is so close.

Killington is looking good for Thanksgiving - they're opening on Sunday 😀

"With 11 inches of new snow this week, cold temperatures, Killington's elevation advantage and the power of the World's Most Extensive Snowmaking System, we're kicking off the 2008/09 ski and snowboard season on Sunday at 10 a.m.

We'll offer top-to-bottom skiing and riding off the K-1 Express Gondola and the Northridge Triple, serving the following trails: Great Northern, Rime, Reason, Upper East Fall, Middle Chute and Lower Bunny Buster. No beginner terrain will be available!"

I'm heading to Stowe on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Hopefully they will have some runs opened by then - they say on their site they plan to open that Monday.

Thanks for the info. Unless there's loads of fresh, that's a lot of driving for one day of skiing. That's why I want to do a house. I just have to get my friends on board.

TDay weekend skiing....hmm.....that would be great. thinking about picking up riding this season too...... getting psyched!
